Headset Purchasing Help

Go to solution Solved by Epis,

Thanks, you just answered the question I forgot to ask. I was wondering if my Extreme 6 motherboard could handle high impedance. Also I thought about the Modmic because I really like the Sennheiser HD 598 but I kinda hate it. It's a good idea though. I don't suppose there are any other solutions if I went with the HD 598.

ASRock claims the onboard sound can drive headphones up to 600 Ohms, so you should be fine.

And no, the Modmic is the most elegant solution for 'converting' headphones into a headset. Otherwise you could get a desktop mic setup, but I guess that isn't really ideal.

I'd like to begin with the fact that I'm not buying any time soon however I want some recommendations on a headset and if I need to buy any other piece of equipment to power them. I have a budget of $300. I want something with a great listening experience for music however I will also be using it for gaming and I want a good mic on the headphones. I was thinking of something from Sennheiser. I'm not a crazy aficionado on audio and I don't have much knowledge on individual brands and headsets but I do know what to look for.

Forgot to mention I need recommendations for speakers as well. I don't really have a price range for that yet.

You gotta do you girl. I always say you gotta do you. And if he's doing him, then who's doing you? Because right now, it seems like no one's doing you.

Well Sennheiser PC360 has everything you need and fits comfortably in your budget, I've had mine for almost half a year now and I can only recommend it. There is also a white/red and black/red model called G4ME ONE.

My rig: CPU: Intel core i5 4670K MoBo: MSI Z87-G45 Gaming RAM: Kingston HyperX Beast 2x4GB 1600mhz CL9 GPU: EVGA GTX780 SC ACX SSD: ADATA Premier Pro SP900 256GBHDD: Western Digital RED 2TB PSU: FSP Aurum CM 750W Case: Cooler Master HAF XM OS: Windows 8 Pro

The Sennheiser G4ME ZERO is pretty much the best 'gaming' headset for under $300, however, it does have an input impedance of 150 Ohms, meaning it may be difficult to power in some situations, but the onboard audio on your Z87 Extreme 6 should be up to the task. The slightly cheaper G4ME ONE is a good option too.

Just keep in mind you can often get better headphones and attach an Antlion Modmic, but this setup also has it's drawbacks.

The G4ME ZERO is a rebrand of the PC350, a closed back headset. It might have better bass, but the positional accuracy is worse than on the ONE, and also isolates the sound from the surroundings, which is good/bad depending on where you are, it's great if you visit a lot of public events etc., but bad if you're just a normal home gamer and you can't hear somebody yelling at you.

How bad does the sound leak on the open one? I normally never bring headphones outside however I'd still like to know.

Now only if I could afford the both the G4ME Zero and HD 800s as well as some closed headphones for walking around :P

If people are within like a foot or 2 of you they will probably hear it.
