Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

Hi, I’m in the US and I’m in college to be an animator I’ve been using a Razor Blade 15 with a 1660 ti in it to do all my work using my labtop screen and a 1440 monitor as well as a Wacom drawing tablet however it’s showing it’s age and taking forever to render whenever I have to which isn’t super often but I’d like it to complete in less than a full day and I’d like to do some gaming as well but I’m not as concerned about gaming performance as I am at being able to do both well. My budget is around 2100. I picked these parts on pc parts picker but, I’m unsure if I’m getting the best value for what I’m going for. I only went with 1tb of storage to start as I’m still in school and will have to go to class with my labtop still and would be better in the short term to use my external to bring my projects back and forth until I have more money to upgrade storage unless that’s causing some of those issues with rendering I’m using a Samsung T7 ssd for my external.

a Nvidia GPU pick for render work would be a good play as CUDA makes life so much easier, a 4070/super would be comparable in price. The SSD is 1tb which is likely fine but could get small if you install lots of games/have large projects on there so maybe go for a bigger/secondary drive. also if price is a concern drop the case quality some and get a cheaper one, that is very expensive for what it is.

Thanks so much with both of your advice I think I’ll go with the 4080 super. The only question I have is with that motherboard it has a spot for 2 M.2 how do I see if one of them is gonna be disabled?  I mean you did manage to add a 4080 super and find me an additional tb of storage.  Just making sure for the future if I need more storage I’m not shopping for an m.2 for more storage later and it won’t work and I’d need a different type of drive.

It'll just use the chipset if they both need to be used

There wouldn't be another one if you couldn't use them both at the same time

Ask your instructor(s) at school what would be the better route to go: 7800x3D + 32GB of RAM + AMD gpu or 13700K + 64GB of RAM + Nvidia gpu.

They recommended the NVIDIA gpu although a lot of the other students use Mac options. So I think I’m gonna pull the trigger and go with the 4080 super option you all suggested. Thanks so much for all the help!

Not to do the 7800x3d although a Ryzen is fine just to do something not as focused on gaming. Sorry
