Unsure how to upgrade.

Hey all, currently unsure if I should upgrade just my CPU to 5800x3D on my mobo, or to just go 7th gen ryzen with a new mobo and DDR5 ram.

 

Specs:

Asus Crosshair 6 Hero

Ryzen 7 3700x

GSkill trident Z Neo 4x16gb @3200MHz

 

So I am wanting to get into tarkov again, my current system struggles now at 1440p in which I have actually quit as it has become so laggy and just plain unplayable.

• So my predicament is pay $600 for a 5800x3d as that is compatible with my 1st gen ryzen mobo and hope it gives enough performance?

 

• Or for the same price get a 7800x3d but pay additional for a mobo and ram, which motherboards at least are not cheap at all.

 

• The CPU's here in NZ anyway are pretty much identical, so it is worth spending $600 for a cpu now or do I wait a bit and get the 7800x3d with mobo and ram, currently would not be able to afford all the 7th gen parts as the mobo and ram are not cheapest here.

 

• Last note is I am not 100% sure if the 5800x3d will even make much of a difference over my 3700x.

If you plan to upgrade later on I would suggest going AM5. Get any CPU falls into your budget. Get a motherboard which is from a reputable place and is a solid deal (offers quality, performance and has nice features you will likely use).

 

The 5800X3D is a massive upgrade.

I'd say it all depends on your budget and what your future game plan is. As the previous user mentioned, going AM5 will give you more of a future upgrade path, however the 5800x3D is still a very solid chip and should give you a noticeable boost over your 3700x. Mobo compatibility/performance shouldn't be an issue, I'd just verify you're on a compatible/latest BIOS version.

Yeah well this X370 1st gen Ryzen mobo has done very well for the seven years I have had it, Tarkov seems to really like the 3d cache so I think for my budget atm I will probably just get the 5800x3D and maybe 1-2 years from now upgrade to a new platform idk.

Which GPU do you have and which resolution do you play at?

 

A 5700X3D might be a bit easier on the motherboard.

Get the 5700X3D. You'll be able to power even a stronger GPU if needed.

The 5700x3D here is $468NZD and the 5800x3D is $548NZD, a bit unsure on  the 5700x3D because of the clock speed, from my knowledge in tarkov having a higher clock speed boosts fps, maybe the 3D cache just makes enough difference on its own?

Yes. The 5800X3D might be worth $20, maybe $50 over a 5700X3D, but definitely not more than that.

Honestly I would of probably gone for the 5600x3D but that is not available in NZ unfortunately.

None of the 5700X3D or 5800X3D are currently on sale, so maybe I just wait for that to happen and pick one up then, depending on prices ofc.

Or you could miss the opportunity to buy them. AM4 isn't getting any younger.
