Any preferences in terms of case colour? brands? If not then the list above would be perfect

7700x, 5800x3D, 7800x3D, 13600k, 14600k.

Intel effectively pumped the i7 category up one tier within the last few generations, so what used to be an i7 like the 7700k is really on par with today's i5 for gaming. On the AMD side, I'd look at the 7700x, 5800x3D, or 7800x3D. The modern i7 and i9 CPUs are really HEDT replacements since Intel killed their HEDT at about the same time.

Really the best answer for gaming is the 7800x3D, everything else is a compromise 😄

I'm not talking about performance, I'm talking about the tiering. Speaking specifically about the upgrade release cycle where the i7 was the standard recommendation for mid-high range gaming PCs which is now the i5. The price is also accordingly set (ignoring inflation).

Intel killing its HEDT and releasing an i9 changed that, it did take a couple generations for the i5 to really start to shine though. I think that changed with the 12600k. The 14700k being an example of the i7 being more geared towards an HEDT replacement getting more E-cores.
