Help with my build

hello users,

i am currently in the process of building my computer (i have all of the parts exept the gpu, i have a temporary gpu currently (2070 gigabyte) https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/D9mq28)

i have a bit of a dilemma, the gpu im going to purchase the 7900 gre but im concerned that my i5 12400f will be abit underpowered, should i return it and buy the 12700kf? (https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/XHx6ZJ)

i ordered the cpu from amazon meaning the return window is still open.

i look forward to hearing you opinions.

I'd get a ddr5 board and RAM if you need to buy new RAM

CPU wise the 12400 will be okay at 1440p or above, but will be a bottleneck at 1080p

A 12600k or 13600k would be better

System : AMD R9  7950X3D CPU/ Asus ROG STRIX X670E-E board/ 2x32GB G-Skill Trident Z Neo 6000CL30 RAM ASUS TUF Gaming AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX OC Edition GPU/ Phanteks P600S case /  Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 cooler (with 2xArctic P12 Max fans) /  2TB WD SN850 NVme + 2TB Crucial T500  NVme  + 4TB Toshiba X300 HDD / Corsair RM850x PSU

Alienware AW3420DW 34" 120Hz 3440x1440p monitor / Logitech G915TKL keyboard (wireless) / Logitech G PRO X Superlight mouse / Audeze Maxwell headphones

at 1080p you should upgrade to a 12700 12700kf or a 13600k or 14600k whatever is in your budget

Not much point in asking then, play games and see what happens

i agree, in theory you might be bottlenecked but just play some games and see what you need to tweak

how would the cpu become a bottleneck at 1080p and not 1440p ?

Cause framerate is higher the lower the res is (GPU has less to do), and at one point the CPU won't be able to process them fast enough
