Things of note my Desktop was also a media and Remote gaming server so it is never powered down or put to sleep specs at bottom .

So about a year ago I initially noticed after a long gaming session that things 2 were happening

  1. Ram RGB stopped functioning(some sticks would go black others light half or wrong colors frozen)
  2. system would become unstable if ram usage was near or above 50% but CPU was only at 10%

So I Ran Windows Memory Diagnostics it passed and once back into windows everything seemed fine except that my RGB never came back on right and no longer showed in any RGB controller.

A few weeks later I got my hands on a 3080 I powered down swapped it out and when I powered on all my ram lit up and worked fine for a few hours then did the same thing again rebooted into memory diagnostics no errors back into windows still bad RGB but system worked fine.

Now a few weeks ago while home with a broken leg I decided it was time to do my yearly windows reinstall which took a about a week I could only sit at my desk for a short time daily before my foot swole up like a balloon same problem persisted but when I was setting up my VMs I noticed for the first time for some reason half my physical ram was missing. rebooted into my Bios and sure enough for some reason XMP was turned off and only 16GB of my 4x8gb kit was there.  I turned off the system reseated my ram and ran both windows memory diagnostics and memtest86 no errors.  but a day later got the same symptoms double checked my ram values all said 32GB but were now getting errors once back into windows and laid down and the system went to sleep as I hadn't adjusted the settings yet and when I came back I looked in on my ram value after waking is was now 16GB again rebooted to bios same and no errors.  powered off fully and turned back on back to 32GB with no errors.

So after Testing Rebooting even though it runs some memory codes doesn't reset the ram, and putting the system to sleep seems to drop a stick or 2 if the error happens, while powering off resets the ram and it works for a few days or hours depending on how hard the system is hammered that day.

I was initially treating this a have slowly dying ram sticks and was planning to replace them but the last year has been one thing after another Wife , my mom, my mother in law and myself having medical emergencies.  So I couldn't justify spending the $100ish for a new 32GB kit but with the new information that has come to mind I am starting to wonder if I have a CPU issue or a MB power issue.  My biggest problem being that I live in a rural area and have no access to a spare x299 or a processor for that socket to test I Initially had this kit in my Wife's AMD rig and it had problems 4 years ago so don't think it will give me any answers and the sticks I have are to tall for my kids rig. so looking for any other advice on testing to narrow down the problem so I am not wasting money.
