Advice on GPU upgrade

Im helping a cousin of mine overseas to upgrade his PC and i could use some help regarding GPU reccomendations as his current build is quite old.

Budget: MYR 500 (roughly a $USD 105 at time of post)

Current Build:

CPU: Intel Core i5 4440

GPU: GTX 1050 2GB
RAM: 18GB ddr3 1333mhz (4GB-4GB-2GB-8GB)
MOBO: Intel c226 motherboard

Storage:

  • 128ssd (most prolly upgrading it to 256)
  • 500gb HDD

Case: HP Z230 (will be changing soon)

PSU: 450-500w

Notes:

He plans on upgrading to either 11th Gen intel i5/i7 or a Ryzen 5 1600 in the near future

Im buying the GPU in Malaysia so it would be helpful if i get some reccomendations according to the specific market here.

He plans on using it mostly for gaming

I'm advising him to to go with AMD since his upgrade path on the AM4 platform would be more easier.

Any help is much appreciated.

PC: Ryzen 5 2600, 16GB 3200mhz RAM (8GBx2), Gigabyte B550M DS3H, GTX 1050 2GB, 650W Semi-Modular PSU80+ Gold

Phone: Poco F3 8GB + 256GB

Audio: Samson SR850s

Sound Card: SoundBlaster Play 4 USB sound card

IEM: planning to get the KBEAR KS2s
Please be patient with me, I'm fatally dumb and its honestly a miracle I've made it this far

Im a little confused CPU or GPU,

Also im not sure $105 will get much worth upgrading as youll need a new motherboard, CPU and RAM

If the $105 is for a gpu, honestly similar story, a meaningful upgrade worth the price will cost more, buying whatevers available for $105 will net you a small upgrade for a decent cost

You might be able to find a 2060Super for around 500 or possibly, if you can get it a 1080Ti for a little more, its an earlier gen than the 2060 but a big upgrade over the 1050 and stronger than the 2060S

System specs:

CPU: Ryzen 7 7800X3D [-30 PBO all core]

GPU: Sapphire AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT NITRO+ [1050mV, 2.8GHz core, 2.6Ghz mem]

Motherboard: MSI MAG B650 TOMAHAWK WIFI

RAM: G.Skill Trident Z5 NEO RGB 32GB 6000MHz CL32 DDR5

Storage: 2TB SN850X, 1TB SN850 w/ heatsink, 500GB P5 Plus (OS Storage)

Case: 5000D AIRFLOW

Cooler: Thermalright Frost Commander 140

PSU: Corsair RM850e

Ya, the 105 is for the GPU strictly, he plans on upgrading the rest of the build over time.

Hmmm, I'll try and keep an eye out for whichever is in budget, thanks for the tip

should be able to find used rx 5700 (xt) for around that price, look on facebook marketplace or carousell

not aware of any online eshops in malaysia aside from shopee but shopee doesnt officially have any categories for used parts so quite skceptical of buying used on shopee not like tokopedia here in indo where theres a filter for used parts

11th gen is a waste of money and has no upgrade path

am4 is also a dead platform with no upgrade path but the boards are dirt cheap, should be able to find b450 tomahawk/aorus elite/strix -f, etc. for the equivalent of ~50$ and i have seen some on carousell when looking at the malaysia used market, also a much higher upgrade ceiling with the 5700x3d/5800x3d which are still among the best gaming cpus atleast for games thatll leverage the cache, might even be able to find used 3600(x) or 5600(x) for cheap since new am4 tends to be overpriced

Not easily available and I'd prefer to test the GPU on the spot.

Shouldnt be too much of an issue, Shopee has an escrow payment system so I can get my money back if anything goes wrong

I wouldn't say dead, more like dormant.

Yeah it's not getting any new boards or anything of the like, but it's still a viable platform if you're coming from a much older platform with a tight budget.

I also wanted to ask about other GPU options such as

- RTX 2060

- GTX 1650/1600 Super

- RX580

- RX5600xt

Now granted, all if these GPUs slam dunk the 1050 2GB but could someone help me power scale these GPUs so I know where each of them is on a performance standpoint

These should give you a decent handle on performance difference but id recommend doing more similar research of your own

Id reckon these 2 are the highest performing of the bunch, so heres a direct comparison
