Is optic fiber recommended? Because i have fiber installed recently and..... not much improvement

Where are you located?

Depending on your plan you might be capped at a certain speed.

It will depend on the ISP at your country provides. I am having 300mbps down using fibre.

Before you start doubting your ISP, always make sure that you test your connection with a gigabit LAN connection directly to your modem. You may get a laptop with gigabit ethernet and connect your laptop and modem with a cat 5e or a cat 6 cable. You can check the category of the cable by looking for text on the cable that says "cat x", where x denotes what category of your cable is. Make sure you do that to avoid bottlenecks. You may be getting mediocre speeds because of wifi overheads and interference, especially on 2.4GHz. Of course, I'm assuming you are using wireless and not wired. This won't apply to you if you are on wired, in which case you should consult your ISP about if you didn't get the expected speeds.

Im using a old laptop to test the speed with gigabyte lan connected. The lan port is old,i think that might be the problem?

Check if the lan port you are using does support 10/100/1000 mbps. Most probably so. Check your laptop's specs.

Generally, how I know the connection is bottlenecked by the lan port is to go to speed test and see the results. If it's like 80-90 mbps fast, that means that the port is most likely 100mbps only (why it's slightly slower is due to network overheads).

Not much improvement? Wow, something must be wrong in your setup.

Fiber has way lower pings and a more stable connection. On top of being available with much higher bandwidths.

So I only see some things to cause your fiber connection to suck: bad installation, slow router or your PC cant take advantage ot it.

That might be the issue. I have 90Mbs/20Mbs Fiber and I only get that in my desktop PC.

Processing power and nic make a big impact on that.
