Hi all,

I've been using a Google Nexus 5 running Android 4.4.2, with Hangouts v2.1.100 as the default texting app. A couple of days ago I was put into a group text with about 4 people, and I found that I would be receiving 1 out of every 4 texts that were sent in the group message, while the other members received all of the sent texts. Any ideas would be helpful, and thanks in advance if someone figures it out.

Helpful Info:

  • Able to retrieve and view SMS texts on hangouts
  • Seems that the phone gets the missed texts, but, displays the message that it "Couldn't download" touch to try again, and then after tapping the message, nothing happens.
  • Running T-Mobile as a carrier

Attempted Fixes:

  • Fiddled with the APN settings, switching to one of the options allowed me to receive more of the texts, but still dropping texts.
  • Turned on roaming auto-retrieve did nothing.
  • Attempted to revert back to the factory version of hangouts, now hangouts crashes.

Was your previous phone an iPhone and are any of the other members iPhone users? It is a known bug that when a person has an iPhone and switches to another phone other iPhones will send messages to that person via iMessage instead of SMS. If This is not the case the only other issue I can think of is that the Nexus 5 is known to have somewhat poor reception. This is one of the compromises that was made to reach the $400 price tag.
