Installing Ubuntu

Hey I just finished building my new PC and will be installing Ubuntu on it for the meantime till I get a Windows licence but I'm having a bit of a problem - I can't boot from my USB stick.

 

I installed the 64 bit ISO file from the Ubuntu website and transfered it to the flash disk after FAT32 formating it. I changed the bios boot order to USB first, but it's not booting and my pc says : insert boot device

 

any ideas ??

I had this same issue with my Dell Optiplex 745. I just burnt the ISO to a disc and installed it from the disc.

Are you using unetbootin to write to your USB drive?

Use Universal USB Installer and I'd recommend Mint as it doesn't have all the amazon spyware. http://www.pendrivelinux.com/universal-usb-installer-easy-as-1-2-3/

No. I just transfered the .iso file to the flash drive. I thought it would mount itself... So i need other software ??

Yes, you can create a bootable pen drive with this USB installer.

Can't install the .exe and get stuck when my flash drive doesn't come up on the list. And installing pendrivelinux through the terminal I get an Error 404 not found :(

An ISO file is like a ZIP file. It contains files. Open the ISO file with Winzip and extract it to the thumb drive after formatting.
