I’m currently diagnosing a PC I built a while back for a family member.

The PC in question started to have regular blue screens. Aida64s stress test showed some problem and stopped the test. After further testing I found that there is a problem with the memory. Running Memtest86 showed a LOT of errors. To find out if the problem was with the CPU, mobo or the RAM I replaced the ram with other sticks and ran all tests again. Multiple Memtest86 runs showed no errors and Aida64 was running for 2 days without any issues.

At this point I thought the RAM must be faulty. Just to verify I installed the original RAM in another PC and run Memtest86 multiple times. Each run passed without any errors.

I’m a bit lost now. The RAM seems to not work (well) in one PC but runs fine in another PC.

I don’t think that it could be compatibility problem since the RAM is listed on the mobo site as supported.

This is the hardware causing the problems:

-            MSI Pro Z690-A DDR4 https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/PRO-Z690-A-DDR4

-            Intel Core i5-12600 https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/products/sku/96149/intel-core-i512600-processor-18m-cache-up-to-4-80-ghz/specifications.html

-            32GB Gskill Trident Z Neo F4-3200C16D-32GTZN https://www.gskill.com/product/165/326/1562838932/F4-3200C16D-32GTZN

The best thing would probably be to test with another mobo and CPU, but sadly I don’t have any Z690/LGA1700 spare parts for testing.

I’m thankful for any input.

If reset the BIOS of both PCs to default for testing. XMP is disabled on both, and I did not configure any timings or voltages.

Did you try each "faulty" stick individually ?

Did you try the other 2 slots ?

So you got the errors without XMP enabled ?

Is your Bios updated to the latest ?

Did you carefully insert the sticks always ? (rather push too much (carefully) than not enough)

Could you replicate the errors after changing the Ram ?

I'd propose bent cpu pins but the other Ram ran fine.

I use Testmem5 for quick Ram tests.

I tested both sticks individually. Both generate errors during the memtest.

I tested each slot on the mobo. I get errors on all of them.

XMP is disabled. No custom BISO settings are applied.

The BIOS of both PCs are up to date.

I think I installed the sticks correctly; it clicked each time, and the BIOS always detected the correct slots and info (capacity frequency etc...)

The errors did not occur with other RAM, but the “faulty” RAM did NOT generate any errors when I installed it on my other PC.

Its an LGA socket...there are no pins on the CPU 😊 I’ve checked the pins on the mobo the look OK.

Will look into Testmem5.
