Ok so i went through newegg and looked for good pc components to upgrade my current pc.  Along with some choices i had questions. My chosen parts are:

I already have an OS (Windows 7 Ultimate) and a hard drive and case. I have a limit of 900$ as my budget so any recommendations given could help.

As for questions

  • What is the performance difference between dual and quad cores
  • Will i require a wifi card or something like that to connect to the internet wirelessly?
  • Will having an a8 differ in graphics output even though i am using a discrete graphics card?

Thanks in advance.

1. Double the cores = double the performance.

2. Yes, you'll need a wireless netowkr card for wifi connectivity.

3. No.

Are you limited to Newegg or are you open to other US shops?

What are the specs of your current system? What's the system being used for?

As other mentionned don't get an APU if you are going to get a discrete graphics card, also do you need a PSU? what PSU do you have with your case...usualy those are crap and need replacing ASAP...

Here's what i would suggest, MUCH better performance for gaming:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant / Benchmarks

CPU: AMD FX-6300 3.5GHz 6-Core Processor ($119.99 @ Newegg)

CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper TX3 54.8 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3P ATX AM3+ Motherboard ($74.99 @ Newegg)

Memory: Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($87.99 @ Newegg)

Video Card: MSI Radeon R9 280 3GB TWIN FROZR Video Card ($200.00 @ Newegg)

Power Supply: EVGA 500W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply ($39.99 @ Newegg)

Wireless Network Adapter: Rosewill RNWD-N1501UB 802.11b/g/n USB 2.0 Wi-Fi Adapter ($8.99 @ Newegg)

Total: $531.95

(Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available.)

(Generated by PCPartPicker 2014-05-22 23:06 EDT-0400)

I went only with parts from NEWEGG.com, you could save some more going with different merchants but not much...also included is the required wireless network adapter for wifi internet.

What case do you have? is it ATX form factor of mATX?

| CPU: Core i7-8700K @ 4.89ghz - 1.21v  Motherboard: Asus ROG STRIX Z370-E GAMING  CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i V2 |
| GPU: MSI RTX 3080Ti Ventus 3X OC  RAM: 32GB T-Force Delta RGB 3066mhz |
| Displays: Acer Predator XB270HU 1440p Gsync 144hz IPS Gaming monitor | Oculus Quest 3 VR

oh and the case size is mATX

And you want to stick with this case? what case exactly is it so i can figure if the parts will fit in it?

and what about your POWERSUPPLY?

Why won't you sell your old computer all togheter as a web browsing machine and use the money to buy new case, new PSU and maybe even an ssd?

there are some cases that are mid tower ATX form factor for about 35$...a good PSU can be found at less than 50$...i think you should start from new looking at what you have you start from very far away...

Look, this is the WHOLE system, all you need to add is your Hard drive and your windows and your good to go:

I have seen all of your responses and have chosen new parts

Any suggestions on these?

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/3Pfh1

YES, pick my build! it was almost 50$ cheaper and featured a much better quality motherboard, a much higher end and MUCH faster CPU, a much better GPU, a MUCH better pSU...i don't get it why you keep...arhhh fack it...why you search for assistance if you want to build a crappy pc by yourself in the end?

HERE IT IS AGAIN IN CASE YOU HAVNT SEEN IT:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant / Benchmarks

CPU: AMD FX-6300 3.5GHz 6-Core Processor ($119.99 @ Newegg)

CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper TX3 54.8 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler

Excuse me i don't want to be mean, but this PC will be running LAPS around yours in games, we are talking almost twice the power here for 50$ less...

Also i built it using ONLY newegg.com, now if you allow me to go through multiple store you save even more..

NOW, i hope this was clear enough...feel free to change the case if you want something else to your likings, add storage, SSD's and stuff to what you need, but the core parts...use those! also you really don't need a 750W PSU you aint gonna go crossfire/CFX on this motherboard neither would you on any FM2+ motherboard, the corsair CX750 is crap on top of that, a good quality 500W EVGA unit like the one i picked for you is plenty and much better quality inside.

In the end of all this, if you still have more money to spend, upgrade the GPU to a r9 280x or r9 290.

Ok thanx

you are welcome!

Also, if you prefer intel i could also suggest a build based around a core i5 for about the same price that will perform about the same in games. Just let met know.

Hey i_build_nanosuits would improving the gpu need a better powersupply (wattage wise)?

Yes it does, but this 500W unit i picked for the build is PLENTY, as i mentionned already this system would run on a good quality 400W unit as it is...that leaves you room for upgrade, i could suggest 550W or 600W unit if you want even more headroom but this one is fine for this config and overtime the new GPU's tend to consume less and less power so you will be set for a while with this one i believe.

If you want to step it up a good notch for some reason, here's the next step up in PSU, this 620W unit is top of the line and will be very reliable for years, it would be a good thing if you could afford something like this WITHOUT cheaping out on the MOBO/CPU/GPU...cheap out on anything else but not those core parts:

Oh ok thanks for helping me pick the correct parts.  I will probalby upgrade to a 280x in the future as i think about it but anyhow thanks

well my build feature the r9 280 already, the 280x is really not an upgrade that will be worth it, we are talking about 10-12% better performance in games MAXIMUM...even an r9 290 would be hard to justify as an upgrade for 1080p gaming...you will most likely need to upgrade the r9 280 in about a year and a half for maybe a GTX 870 or radeon r9 380X (if there is going to be such things...but, yeah :P)
