External Thunderbolt GPU

I use a 2012 iMac with an i7 and 16BG of ram to work on large photoshop and do some light after effects rendering. I was told that theres an external GPUS that will help with my rendering times. is this true? if not what do you recommend for me to help with overall performance and rendering times?

The actual enclosure is like $500 plus then u have to buy a Graphics card for it its not really worth it also i dont even think any have been released because amd and nvidia wont release drivers for it.

Parts are very replaceable and you are an intelligent person. Don't count yourself (and the plenty of help forums) out.

Hackintosh is basically your only option but you have to buy a new pc which can be alot.
