im working on planning out a project for my impulse buy. its a dual 2011-3 mobo from alliexpress and id like to make a dual user system out of it. link below. my main concern is software for it as i understand that this is a semi unique build and im not sure that the old 2 gamers 1 cpu video is still relevant to the modern software or if there's just a better way to do this.

so i can use some advice! im building the system cause I want to and i would like to take the chance to mess with whatever software that's applicable

hardware wise i already have 2 e5 2683v4 xeons in it and itll boot off of nvme. im thinking on getting a couple of rx 5700 or something similar (the w5700 cards are pretty tempting) and putting a couple of usb 3 cards in it. thinking 14 cores per user and a dedicated gpu and usb 3 card. the system will be more for show either way. im not sure if the bord supports bifurcation, last i booted it i didn't think about checking. it does allow you to unlock the core clocks tho.

  • 3 weeks later...

update on my progress so far, IT POSTS AGAIN!!! its mostly just a bunch of functional garbage thrown together and ive booted it into Ubuntu (unintentionally) and everything is detected and functional. its enough hardware in theory to prove weather or not its gonna work. so far it looks like proxmox is a pretty good option for getting things going. now its just proving the concept. an issue i can see happening is that proxmox might not be a fan of not having a dedicated video output so i might have to swap one of my usb cards for my fx5500. like i said, functional garbage. in my pics it only has 8gigs of mem from troubleshooting but ive got it working with 32 gigs

I don't have a whole lot to add, well done for pursuing such a complicated project 🙂

But I did just want to say that I think some anti-cheat systems have a problem with virtual machines. Easy Anti-Cheat and whatever Valorant uses, I believe might ban you if you play a multiplayer game with them, so double check on that before you go for any games with an account you care about.
