is it worth going from a i3 12100f to a i5 12400f or shoud i just use more money and get a i5 12600k or i 13400f

i bought my i3 used for 80 usd and recenatly seen a listing of a i5 12400f for 115 usd. i there are also i5 12600k and 13400f from 215 to 250 usd. my biggest resaon for going with the i5 12600k and higher is the E-cores, but is it worth the dubble price when its pair with a rtx 4060?

rig:

i3 1200f

rtx 4060

8x2gb 3600mhz ddr4

2tb kc3000 nvme

asrock b660m/itx

corsair tx750m

well, upgrading slower part for faster part is one reason,

but a more reasonable reason would be, if the current CPU was limiting your ability to do stuff, or your fps performance, or anything of that kind.

CPU upgrade does enable potential fps increase, in certain games, not all of them, and sometimes the increase is only really based on the GPU.

You have the cheapest 40 series GPU, so, the chances of getting more fps in most games looks very small for the price you'd pay.

current PC:

Ryzen 5 5600 |16GB DDR4 3200Mhz | B450 | GTX 1080 ti [further details on my profile]

PC configs I used before:

  1. Pentium G4500 | 4GB/8GB DDR4 2133Mhz | H110 | GTX 1050
  2. Ryzen 3 1200 3,5Ghz / OC:4Ghz | 8GB DDR4 2133Mhz / 16GB 3200Mhz | B450 | GTX 1050
  3. Ryzen 3 1200 3,5Ghz | 16GB 3200Mhz | B450 | GTX 1080 ti

its not to get more fps necessarily but for more stability and less lagg when alt-abing and using other tabs when playing

edit: thats why i want E-cores but not sure if it will realy need it and if it make a big diffrence in power efficiancy, if say i undervolt the 12600k

so you have like lot of programs open or something, or like a Chrome on 2nd monitor, Discord, 9 other programs running, and game on top?

that's the only time I'd imagine a decent would CPU lag

does it like, lag you can't do anything for several seconds when you alt-tab?

have you tried to troubleshoot this lag or asked anyone, for example by making a post here, if there's a different possibility that may cause the lag?

Yes it’s around 2 seconds but it only happens when I have my tasks up to, when I close most of them it gets better

i have not tried troubleshooting or posting about about this, thought that it’s normal with cpu that have “few” cores

edit: forgot to mention that it’s not only when I alt tab, there are also stutters in the game, which also get reduced when I close tasks

it is normal, but 12100F has 4 cores and 8 threads, so normally it doesn't really choke at doing some PC gymnastics,

hmmm, you probably know about updates and drivers, but have you updated chipset drivers when you were setting up your PC?
