Help with data "recovery"

This help isn't exactly for me, but here it goes...

 

My father's colleague is currently having problems with his WD My Passport Essential 1Tb external HDD.

 

He has some important documents there, and while i can open the drive, it won't open the documents or let me copy them O.o

 

 

 

So my question guys is what should i do to save the important data (around 1Gb)... I need help... fast...

If the files aren't even accessible and they can't be moved over to the desktop, I don't think there is much that can be done about a dead portable hdd.

They're accessible, but i can't neither open or read them...

 

The computer recognizes the HDD just fine, and it's working fine...

If you cant open or read them, the HDD is only reading to a certain point, if you try placing a file on it does it transfer over?

Yes, i can transfer files over to the Ext. HDD

 

Have you tried different computers? 

Yeah, they do recognize it, but it's the same problem...

Has the guy who owns it locked the partition on the HDD not allowing you to do anything?

No. The HDD itself is locked (it's a passport edition), but he gave me the password so i unlocked it, that's why i can access it
