Laptop GPU Bios Question

Hello!

I've recently acquired an old laptop that uses a post "Nvidia Bumpgate" Geforce 9600m GT, and to get the best performance out of this old GPU I've been overclocking it. This GPU has been stable in all games and tests with a 150mhz GPU overclock [stock is 500mhz] and I want to overclock it further, however, i've reached the limit Nvidia will let me overclock this GPU by.

I'm wondering if I can flash a a different Geforce 9600M GT vBios onto this GPU that has a higher default clock that'll allow me to overclock the GPU further. My current vBios is a sony 9600M GT 62.94.3C.00.39, and the vBios I want to use is a Nvidia 9600M GT 62.94.3C.00.00.

Would this vBios brick my GPU? Would it even allow for more overclocking? [not including if the overclock is actually stable]

I imagine its hard to find now, but you can use GPU-Z to pull the vBIOS then a tool that lets you edit it to adjust boost clocks and such. I have a GTX 970m laptop I did this to way back in 2016 and its still going strong today. My dad used it for the last 5 years or so as a gaming laptop only recently upgrading to a desktop.

 

I don't remember the name of the special tool, otherwise you're doing it the really hard way. You might be able to find custom vBIOS other people made, but for something that old, you're likely to find more malware than actual vBIOS's in my opinion.

GPU-Z says vBios reading is not supported on this device... That doesn't seem like a good sign lol

Well it is a nearly 16 year old GPU, so you might be SOL on anything but a 'launch on start' MSI Afterburner overclock.

I use MSI afterburner to overclock but I want to overclock it further since the GPU is stable at the max overclock I can apply.

Also NVflash says that there is no Nvidia Display Adapter present

Yeah, I don't think you have many options if NVflash and GPU-Z don't recognize the GPU properly. That's where you get into the no-no territory of the internet to try to get what you're looking for and more than likely get malware instead.

I think Sony might've had something to do with this, I already know that they purposefully changed the GPU's ID so you could not update any of its drivers [unless you mod them]

I'm going to install the old driver it shipped with to see if that solves any of my problems

I still have no luck in saving or flashing this old laptop gpu, I know it must be possible because there are tons of 9600m gt bios(s) on texhpowerup.

Any other software anyone know of?
