Budget (including currency): $3500-4000 (CAD)

Country: Canada

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Heavy workloads in Davinci Resolve, After Effects, Blender. Video editing and 3D work shot on Black Magic Pocket 4K.

Other details: The only computer I've ever owned is an Intel Macbook Pro 16 inch, with 32GB of memory. I'm still kinda considering a new Macbook pro, especially because of the screen, but I know for the money I can get a lot more out of a PC. I will need a really good monitor for colour grading as well. It does not need a high refresh rate though. Any advice would be greatly apreciated.

I am going to speak heresy in this forum, get a Mac Mini. Then there's no need to learn a new OS and Mac has excellent support, especially for Art Software :

https://www.apple.com/shop/buy-mac/mac-mini/apple-m2-pro-with-10-core-cpu-and-16-core-gpu-512gb

I'd stick with the 10/16/16core, most programs can't use more than 8 threads anyways but you could splurge and get the 12/19/16 for +$300 for some future proofing.

Go for the 32Gb of unified memory

Stay with the 512GB internal drive and get an external Thunderbolt 4 drive later as needed.

Mac Mini Total $1699

Splurge on the Monitor! You're going to spend a long time looking at it. I suggest the Asus ProArt 32":

https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1660132-REG/asus_pa329cv_32_4k_hdr_ips.html

Monitor total $599.00

Add in a really nice Keyboard and mouse your hands/wrists will thank you.

https://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Keys-Combo-Customizable-Illumination/dp/B0BKVY4WKT/

Keyboard & Mouse 199.99

Grand Total $2497.99
