fixed Own PC Build not starting

Hi,

currently I'm helping a friend regarding his pc build which does not boot.

The components:

- Mainboard: N7 Z790

- CPU: i9 (exact model not present at the moment)

- CPU cooler: NZXT Kraken 280

- RAM: 2x 16 GB Fury from Kingston

 

Direct after turning on, the LED for CPU and RAM is on. I changed the ram, but the same happens.

The orignal build was done by the friend so I do not know what exactly happened during build.

 

I completely disassambled everything and checked the cpu on the motherboard, removed every not needed cable, but still the same.

After running the mainboard, cpu, cooling and ram outside of the case, I can hear that the pump on the cpu is "running" but except some led light of the cpu cooler.

 

Since ram was changed and the mainboard was sent to the seller and came back without any repair the only problem could be the cpu or the cpu cooler. Or am I wrong?

Cooler can't prevent boot, you can do it without any cooler ... but it'll crash under 1 min !

The symptoms point out to the CPU being faulty, but can you try with another compatible CPU ? 

Not even sure the board is working, if it has been returned with only some vague excuse...

Are you able to attempt to update the BIOS on the motherboard?

currently there's no CPU around for checking if this might be the problem.

 

Updating the motherboard needs to have a propper working CPU I suppose. Maybe I'll buy the cheapest compatible CPU of the socket, just to check.

After complaining to the seller, the board can be sent again.

Let's hope for an exchange.

Just an Update: Seller took the mother board back and another motherboard (MSI MAG Z790 TOMAHAWK MAX WIFI) was purchased.

 

After I installed the cpu, ram and all the cables, the system did not boot either. This time the DRAM LED was shining. After I changed the ram dims, the same happens.

Currently I'm thinking of possible other problems.

• CPU with problems?
• PSU not capable of handling CPU (becaus after the cpu check, there is a click from the psu)
• bios update not the latest and that causing the problems on the new board?

Is there anything I'm missing?

Hi,

 

I found the solution to all this.

Since the Memory itself needs a lot of power, I disassembled the complete setup and saw a missing connector for the motherboard.

This pluged in and everything build up again -> now everything works. Could have saved so much time.
