i just installed a wireless nic in my pc that already has a 1gbps lan nic. they are both connected to the same network and when i go to a website they both show up as active in taskmanager as you can see in the picture. is windows 8.1 doing automatic link aggregation for me? or is it something else?

I'm not sure what your picture here means. The two graphs in this screenshot are showing "Active time" and "Data Transfer Rate". None of which directly relate to link aggregation or network usage. Moreover, on the side bar of your task manager, the screenshot indicates your Wi-Fi usage at 0:0 (Send:Receive).

In my personal opinion, I wouldn't link those two interfaces together (if it was even possible). That's an unstable and varied link with a stable and constant link.
Sorry, I guess I segued off the topic xD.

in the picture you see my drive stats. in the two smaller pictures you can see the wifi and lan stats.

yes i know it is unstable and overkill too because my internet is not that fast but i want to know why my wifi is active

Well, you can be connected to two networks at once, but Windows does not suppose load balancing between networks. I'm not quite sure what's going on with your NICs.
