Connection issues

OGSxMiDNiT3

I just got a new motherboard (ASRock B650E Taichi Lite) and it has been working fine but now im having all sorts of connection issues. I was playing my games and talking on discord then randomly my discord started acting up sending my ping to 5000ms then to disconnected and then No Route so i looked up fixes and tried a few like hardware acceleration and restarting my PC and Router after i restarted my router my internet on my pc went to shit. Now only some websites work like youtube and this website work with no issue but when i try to get the drivers for my motherboard on asrock it wont load it gives me "ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT" and says it took too long to load. im trying more stuff so i might not respond to people if they try to help for a bit.

also after awhile i found out some stuff that might help figure out whats happening. I also have AT&T

So when i load up to discord on my phone and PC and try to VC it gives me the No Route error on every pc and phone connected to my wifi but if i switch to data on my phone i can connect just fine. With web browsers on my PC some websites will load some will not some that load are: this website, youtube.com, and some others. the only two that i try and fail to load are Wikipedia and asrock.com for some reason and its not just my pc its also my phone but like i said once i switch to data and turn off wifi on my phone it works just fine. also i can play games just fine as im typing this im currently play with my friend on a game just talking to him on my phone with discord with my data on.

This is a very odd issue, but is occasionally posted online when discussing networking issues.

I always suggest changing your DNS server address at your network / wifi router.

Your network router probably has ethernet and wifi, so it's the same device for both connection types.  DNS is domain name service.  Domain name is another way to say a website.

What is happening when you type in wikipedia is the same as you opening a phonebook, looking up a name, and inputting a telephone number.  Your computer asks a dns service, such as Quad9, Cloudflare or by default, your internet service provider, to look up the IP address (a bunch of numbers) for the domain wiikipedia.

Then, your internet service provider's domain service has the ip address for wikipedia.  Via port 53 on your network, your computer or phone receives the IP address, and finally, connects to that address.

If in the incredibly unlikely chance that your internet service provider's DNS setup is malfunctioning, you can try switching to something else.

It's actually easier to do on your smartphone vs your PC, as there are more clicks / windows to open.

On your smartphone, whether android or iOS doesn't matter as the process is so similar.

Hold down on the wifi toggle and find "edit".  On the network name you use, get into advanced settings for the wifi network so that you see DNS.

Enter 1.1.1.2 for primary and

1.0.0.2 for alternate.  This is a service called Cloudflare, and the .2 is for blocking some advertisements.  .3 will block some content and malicious websites.  .1 at the end will apply no filtering.

Try that on your phone, and if it doesn't fix the issue, I'm out of ideas.

Windows 11 will just force business to "recycle" "obscolete" hardware.  Microsoft definitely isn't bothered by this at all, and seems to want hardware produced just a few years ago to be considered obsolete.  They have also not shown any interest nor has any other company in a similar financial position, to help increase tech recycling whatsoever.  Windows 12 might be cloud-based and be a monthly or yearly fee.

Dark Reader addon for webpages.  Pick any color you want for both background and text (background and foreground page elements).  Enable the preview mode on desktop for Firefox and Chrome addon, by clicking the dark reader addon settings, Choose dev tools amd click preview mode.

NoScript or EFF's privacy badger addons can block many scripts and websites that would load and track you, possibly halving page load time!

F-droid is a place to install open-source software for android, Antennapod, RethinkDNS, Fennec which is Firefox with about:config, lots of performance and other changes available, mozilla KB has a huge database of what most of the settings do.  Most software in the repository only requires Android 5 and 6!

I recommend firewall apps (blocks apps) and dns filters (redirect all dns requests on android, to your choice of dns, even if overridden).  RethinkDNS is my pick and I set it to use pi-hole, installed inside Ubuntu/Debian, which is inside Virtualbox, until I go to a website, nothing at all connects to any other server.  I also use NextDNS.io to do the same when away from home wi-fi or even cellular!  I can even tether from cellular to any device sharing via wi-fi, and block anything with dns set to NextDNS, regardless if the device allows changing dns.  This style of network filtration is being overridden by software updates on some devices, forcing a backup dns provuder, such as google dns, when built in dns requests are not connecting.  Without a complete firewall setup, dns redirection itself is no longer always effective.
