My PC randomly restarted itself when on my pc. Now it restarts itself constantly trying to boot showing "Preparing automatic repair". Sometimes it reaches the windows login menu before restarting.

I can launch into BIOS without any issues, CPU 47 degrees and MOBO 27 degrees (aka no overheating I think). No lights on the mobo are showing no problems with boot, gpu, dram or cpu.

I figure the problem is Windows or PSU. But I can't reset windows from advanced startup because the pc keeps restarting itself. Any way I can reset or reinstall windows so I can see if that is the problem?

The problem seems to be Windows, but what are your hardware specs to be sure?
You should be able to get into safe mode, see if you can undo recent updates or delete something you downloaded just before the system started acting up.
Failing that, you should prepare a windows install medium and try to have your PC repaired with it, or re-install your OS, if that does not work either.

I tried to use a usb flash drive eith windows boot installer on it. As soon as I press to launch it via bios, the computer immediately restarts itself.

Specs: ryzen 5 5600X

Asus b550-f gaming

Noctua nh-u9s

Gigabyte OC 3060 TI

Corsair CX650

Corsair 3600mhz 2x8GB

Windows is on a samsung 250gb ssd (I have a 2tb hdd and a 500gb m.2 too)

Damn, your Windows install is MESSED UP then, it does not seem like your PSU would be the issue. Did you set the USB as the first boot option in BIOS? If not, do so. If you did or if it still does not work after you did, pull the Windows SSD like @Chapunna said. That thing is messed the F up, I would wipe it and reinstall Windows.

Do you have any idea about what you could have done to make it happen? Windows can just kill itself, but that is very rare and I am curious.

Literally was just watching youtube and poof. The first restart happened, booted into windows again and after barely launching my startup programs (steam, discord and voicemeeter) the restarting cycle began

I wiped the SSD and my M.2 from bios and managed to boot the windows installer. I installed it onto my M.2 instead (since I figured there perhaps might be a problem with the SSD itself), but in the like 'setup' after installing windows I got to choosing my keyboard layout and then it restarted again and the cycle kept on going. But windows is installed on the M.2 (as bios shows it as a boot option). This worries me that it's a hardware issue.

Gonna wipe the M.2 again, pull that and the HDD out and try to install windows on my SSD.

Wellp, there might be something wrong with the hardware then. It could actually be the PSU (you could give it a good smell and a look; DO NOT STICK ANYTHING INTO IT THOUGH). Look for anything suspicious on the motherboard (burnt spots, blown caps etc), then take out all the drives and boot into a live Linux environment if you cannot find anything that looks off.

Super weird. Plugged out my M.2 and HDD and managed to install windows. Got into the main screen and was like 'yesss finally', managed to sit there for a couple minutes without the pc restarting itself. Both my monitors didn't work simultaneously. So I shut it down, decided to plug in both my HDD and M.2 again and booted it up. Now the restart cycle has returned

One of those is causing issues, try them one at a time.

I removed both and the cycle kept happening. Most likely one of them is inflicting some damage on my OS.

Gonna see if I can reinstall windows (again) om my SSD and try them one by one.

Ah, missed that messaged before I got to work.

(Still can't get two monitors to work at the same time but that is a seperate problem).

SSD + HDD worked fine for like 1min but open entering windows, it took a minute until the cycle came back (coincidentally happened as soon as I plugged in my 2nd monitor)

SSD + M.2 Had problems immediately

PSU doesn't smell. But I suspect that is the culprit (since I had problems with a 650W psu last year of the same model. Pc would start and then restart after about 1min or so. But managed to get warranty replacement on that one, which is my current one)

Yeah nah, get a different unit. I do like my RM850x, but can understand completely if you do not want Corsair again.

Not 100% sure the PSU is the culprit, but I don't really know what else it could be. I hardly would doubt that both my HDD and M.2 are inflicting problems upon my whole system by just plugging them in.

Worth a shot, now that you say it; install the OS, leave her running and then let her rip (AKA run CPU-Z and Furmark at the same time to stress the PSU) if the system is stable for more than ten minutes. Might blow up the PSU, but it would hopefully not take any other components with it... hopefully.

Tested the M.2 and HDD alone and they also get the proeblm. M.2 opens windows boot installer, and the HDD never even gets out of loading screen with ROG logo. So weird that the SSD doesn't get the problem as frequently. When trying to install windows on SSD I can get to the install section before it reboots (sometimes getting through it into windows).

Probably just gonna buy a RM750W PSU tomorrow, if it doesn't work with a new psu I can always return it. But since it's not the first time I have had problems with the system not being able to hold bc of the PSU. It's a fair chance it's the same problem again

Don't wanna risk taking any other components down with it.

You should not need more than 500W, there might be some money to be saved in going with a lower capacity PSU
