Hot take: in 2024, 8GB of memory is enough for non-enthusiasts

Grammerly used to regularly bring my old laptop to its knees when it was running a single 8 GB stick of DDR4 If I was writing an article in the WordPress editor and got over 1100 to 1200 words it would start to struggle mightily. Adding a second 8-gig stick solved that issue instantly.

My current laptop has 64 gigs of DDR5 and I can still drag it down if I am editing a particularly large or complicated video file.

Even right now I have three chrome tabs open, one of which is playing a 4k music video on my external monitor and I am sitting just a hair over 8 GB of RAM usage. That is certainly not a workload that would be too far outside of what a normal average every day user might have going at any given time.
