Is CPU temp reported accurately?

I just did a pre build POST test on an AMD 7700X build for a friend. At idle in the BIOS, it says 32.0 degrees C steady, with absolutely NO fluctuation. Is that normal, like is that being reported accurately? It's a Gigabyte B650 Aorus Elite AX V2 with a Peerless Assassin SE cooler. The fans on the cooler spin around 1000 rpm.

Make sure to PBO/CO that thing, it'll perform like a champ.  Yes, that temp is correct.

Curve Optimizer.  I followed these for an All core of 5.5GHz and lowering of temps/voltage.  Could only hit 5.70 single core...

Ah, okay, thanks so much, I will look at all of this. I personally have a 5900X. PBO/CO, undervolting, etc, are all things that I didn't really consider in the beginning because I assumed my 5900X was perfectly good stock. But recently I have planned to look into these things, and I would like to know them for my friend's build as well. It seems like my 5900X runs a little warmer than his 7700X, I'm a little jealous and I'm thinking about repasting my personal machine. I would have assumed the 7700X idles hotter.

My 7700X ran like a champ, and I wouldn't have replaced it if I hadn't gotten the 7800X3D for $299 from MC.   Luckily my 7800X3d does a -30 just like the 7700X but temps are even better.

 

You have a good motherboard so that may play a small part.  Try -30 all core negative, it may work out of the gate.

you don't even need those co/pbo shenanigans,  sure my 5800x3D runs slightly faster with it, but it's pretty much ok without too... those 5-10fps aren't really worth the hassle tbh

well, it is... lol.

 

some people just have a hard on to overclock or undervolt everything (usually without mentioning the sometimes massive downsides)

 

personally I'd recommend leaving this stuff at stock, at least until you know how everything performs,  cause any kind of "tuning" can actually decrease performance  - and longevity when done wrong.

What hassle?  Enable motherboard PBO, go to CO, enter 30, change to negative.

 

Barely more than hitting XMP.

You can test for instability with p95 smallest ffts, only takes like 15-30mins

 

Also the x cpus are pretty horrible out of the box, tuned way too aggresively and drawing a ton of power out of the box for basically no gain or very minor gains

 

 

With overclocking being dead id rather just undervolt and run the chip at its best efficiency, you arent really gonna push the clocks much higher with a max oc as long as you are sticking to ambient cooling, even with a delid and a beefy waterloop you still arent gonna get much extra freq over tuning on air

 

if you wanna have fun with oc nowadays id point to ram oc, even that can get somewhat boring if were stuck to only ~8000 ddr5

Nope, CO instability doesnt manifest at high loads unless if it is extremely on knives edge of bootability. They manifest at low loads, especially in sleep mode. Corecycler does it better than manually running P95.
