Hi all!

Before I start, I know how to slap together a PC decently well however am a complete noob when it comes to diagnosing issues.

I've been putting together a PC with parts I have laying around as of late.

Specs:

Intel 8700K

Gigabyte Z390 UD motherboard

Corsair CL16 3000mhz 16GB ram kit

Asus RTX3070

NZXT 650W PSU

Kingston something 256GB SATA SSD

When I first put it together, it booted up fine. Loaded up into BIOS and was able to run a windows installer off of a USB drive.

This is when the first issue came up, when selecting a drive it said "The selected disk has an MBR partition table. On EFI systems, windows can only be installed to GPT disks". When I saw this, I got distracted with something and left it on this screen for a few hours.

Then I came back and from there I started googling, went into BIOS and saw I had CSM support disabled. Thinking it had something to do with it, I enabled it.

When it then restarted after I made that change.. is when the GPU started giving issues.

Since then, I will only get a black screen when the GPU is plugged in. This goes for when plugging HDMI into the ports on the GPU itself but also on the back of the motherboard.

If I then take the GPU back out and plug HDMI into the motherboard.. all boots up fine. Since then I've completely reset BIOS by removing the cmos battery however that did nothing either.

I still have to figure out how to install windows as well but the idea of my GPU possibly being fried out of nowhere freaks me out a bit. Any suggestions on how to move forward before I make things worse?

This is likely why your modern GPU is giving you issues. CSM is disabled and you only need to enable it for working with older pre UEFI interfaces.
What is CSM BIOS? Should You Enable or Disable it? - ElectronicsHub

Also your window problems are likely also being caused be enabling CSM, as MBR is being used since its fgor legacy BIOS while GPT is used with UEFIs. Basically you should have your problems fix themselves by disabling CSM.

Could it be that the BIOS did not properly reset itself when I removed the CMOS battery then?
