Hello, I recently bought a used PG27AQDM.

Once I set it to 240hz 1440p, the screen tears/"wiggle" from time to time on the desktop, and especially in games (starcraft 2). I tried setting it to 1080p/240hz and 1440p/120hz and I've had zero trouble, but in 1440p/240hz it "tears" and sometime the screen goes black for a couple seconds.

I have an msi gtx 1080ti, 32go of ram, a i5 7500 and I use a 1.4 Display port cable.

It is still under the 2 year warranty. Should I send it back or is it the GPU that it bottlenecking me ? I'm almost done with my next build using a rx 6850xt and a 13700k i7, so should it keep that monitor ?

I thank you all very much in advance,

Sash

First of all i'd suggest using DDU to fix any potential GPU driver related issues.

If that doesn't fix it, maybe it's just a cable issue. The cables that are included with monitors are pretty bad most of the time, so investing in a good DP 1.4 cable might be your solution. Replacing the cable is pretty cheap and the quicker than the next step.

What i also found out is that apparently Nvidia 10-series GPU's don't have 100% guaranteed compatibility with every DSC protocol, which is required to achieve the bandwidth needed for 1440p and 240Hz at the same time. (source)

If DDU or the cable fix doesn't fix it, then just take the RX 6850 that you have laying around and try it with this GPU. If the issue persists, then it's also not related to the GTX 1080Ti you're using. In that case you at least know for sure it's a monitor issue. If this is the case, you need to open a support ticket for RMA.

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.

Is DDU short for Display Driver Uninstaller?

Yes.

It's quite simple to use. Download the latest driver for your GPU > reboot into safe mode > unplug your internet cable > run DDU > after the automatic PC reboot install the GPU driver you got earlier > plug your internet cable back in.

(Unplugging the internet cable makes it so Windows doesn't automatically pull an older version from the Windows update servers after recognizing you have a GPU without a driver)

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.

10-seried GPUs don't support DSC at all.

DSC is not needed for 1440p 240 Hz unless 10 bpc color depth is activated. If that were the case then he wouldn't be able to set 240 Hz at all.

It's because ASUS is meddling with specs of a product again. I don't know how it is on AMD Radeon cards which is what you have, but on GeForce RTX 3080 that I have, variable refresh rate doesn't work as the monitor is not even G-Sync Compatible. I just made a post about it on my blog on this and wanted to post it here when I noticed your post...

Again, don't know how it's on Radeon cards with FreeSync, but certainly is an issue on GeForce with G-Sync.

I've just changed the cable to a new one I bought at a local hardware store, and it has been working just fine for a couple hours now. I have it plugged on a 1080ti right now, but tomorrow i'll plug it on my 6950XT and see how it goes.

Thanks a lot for your answers !
