A faster GPU would likely be held back by your CPU, so upgrading just the GPU might not leed to much of a performance improvement.

You will likely see better performance if you just buy a new system.

Common build advice:

1) Buy the cheapest (well reviewed) motherboard that has the features you need. Paying more typically only gets you features you won’t use. 2) only get as much RAM as you need, getting more won’t (typically) make your PC faster. 3) While I recommend getting an NVMe drive, you don’t need to splurge for an expensive drive with DRam cache, DRamless drives are fine for gamers. 4) paying for looks is fine, just don’t break the bank. 5) Tower coolers are usually good enough, unless you go top tier Intel or plan on OCing. 6) OCing is a dead meme, you probably shouldn’t bother. 7) "Bottlenecks" rarely matter and "Future-proofing" is a myth. 8) AIOs don't noticeably improve performance past 240mm and don't improve at all past 360mm. 9) RTFM.

Still plenty of performance to be had. Back in the day I upgraded from my GT640 to 960 and was like triple the performance on an even older i3 550, I remember war thunder was one of them. Sure it'll play no new game but whatever OP's using it for now will be enough.

Have a look at low end 900 series NVIDIA cards. 950 or 960. Some of those need a single 6 pin connector but most are powered from PCIE lane alone. Do you have one? 750TI was a workhorse everyone had. Maybe consider a 1650 as well.

They'll all be used tho. Good news at least they shouldn't cost too much, $70 at most for a well looked after card.

Yes, you said that. "Good" here is subjective.

i don't really know anything about these older systems but i kinda doubt this current gpu is top of the line for the period....?

so a 960/970 wouldn't perform better? i dunno maybe even a 1060/1070?

or these fancy VEGA gpus with hbm ... (performs similar to a 1080 iirc)

Well it's still say okayish nowadays, but even a 10100 is faster...

But plenty of power left to a poor GT620, you main issue is that you need cards with no additional PCie power needed

GTX1650 but they may be expensive/hard to find

Else RX6500XT but it will be slowed by PCie3 x4
