When I try to play games or do GPU-intensive tasks my computer keeps having issues. Every time I've tried to play Rainbow 6 Siege about 15-30mins into running the game my computer has crashed. Sometimes it just freezes with the sound still playing for a second then sends me to the home screen (with no error code) and sometimes it completely hard crashes and restarts my computer (with no blue screen). Up until those crashes the game runs fine at 1440p ultra 120-144fps. I have also been experiencing the same crashes in Fortnite while experiencing poor performance. It did not seem to matter whether I ran the game on low or ultra, I would get around 120fps sitting completely still, and as soon as I moved or looked around the game would consistently drop to around 30fps then spike back up.

I have updated my GPU drivers, Chipset Drivers, Windows, and Bios, Verified the game files of both games, and reinstalled both games. I have stress-tested my CPU with it performing fine at around 65 degrees C. I have run Memtest86 with it finding no errors. I have stress-tested my GPU on Heaven with it benchmarking a good score and sitting around 61 degrees C.

This is where my most recent problem has arisen, however. Most of the time I have ran Heaven I benchmarked it once going through the 26 slides and everything showed up fine. As of 30 minutes ago, I ran Heaven once and it ran fine, then after a minute or two I ran it again and all vitals looked good (temp, watts, boost clock) then about halfway through the slides my computer hard crashed and restarted (with no blue screen).

Now I'm at a crossroads and not sure what I should do next. I feel like I've narrowed the problem down to either the power supply or the GPU. I'll give the history of both, I bought my power in 2017 and heavily used it from 2017-2020, roughly 3 years. It sat well kept and unused since 2020 until about 2 weeks ago. My GPU was given to me by my brother-in-law at the same time I started using my power supply again. He said that he bought the GPU new in 2020 and only used it for a couple of months until storing it safely and not touching it until I received it. My power supply only has one VGA cable from which I daisy chain an 8-pin and 6-pin connecter. I've read conflicting statements on whether that's ok or not.

At this point, I would like to know whether it sounds like my power supply, GPU, or just something else, and what I should do to test it. I have thought about buying a power supply tester but I don't really know what they do. I have an old GTX 1050 Ti that I could plug in but if the problem is my GPU not getting enough power then I don't think the 1050 could pull enough power to test it. Last and certainly least I do not want to reinstall Windows if I don't have to.

Thanks 🙂

Does the psu fan spin ?

A 2060 doesn't need much power, that daisy chain should be fine

I’m not 100% sure. I’ve tried sticking my hand underneath my case to try and feel the fan, and I don’t feel a lot of air flow. I don’t know how else to tell without flipping my computer upside down while it’s running.
