Hi,

I currently have on my pc 1 nvme and 1 hard disk.

I want to upgrade them both (my motherboard only support one nvme slot).

I bought 1 nvme and 1 ssd.

how can i transfer the data and operating system to the new drives? (if you recommend apps as the method please add names)

will i lose my windows license?

Also should i upgrade to windows 11?

Thanks

Personally I wouldn't upgrade to windows 11.

To transfer your data you can use a tool like CloneZilla. You'll want device-to-device, full disk copy, source is your old disk, destination is your new disk. then Mini Tool Partition Magic (free version) to resize the disk.

To use both old and new nvme disks get a pci-e nvme expansion card if you have a free pci-e slot or alternativly use a usb m.2 nvme external Enclosure.

No you won't lose your windows license

If the new drive is larger. CloneZilla copies the drive's sectors exactly as it was, MBR/Boot, partitions, logicals, etc. If your existing drive is 100gb it will copy all sectors and you'll be left with 100gb of sectors on the new drive, if your new drive is say 200gb you will need to resize the partition to be 200gb not 100gb. Also recovery partitions for windows are normally placed at the end of the drive's sectors, so that will need to be dragged to the end sectors of the new drive, then the new drives main partition extended to the end

Just to clarify the windows recovery partition gets moved to the end sectors, not resized. This can be done by right click -> move/resize -> clicking the centre and dragging it to the end

This allows space for the main partition to be resized by right click -> move/resize -> dragging the arrow on the right to the end.

The first two partitions 100mb and 16mb shouldn't be touched
