So I am connecting to google fiber(1gb plan) and have been experiencing much slower speeds than expected. I started off with about 3Mbps download and got it up to 87 by changing my DNS server. I am still experiencing ping spikes that make most games unplayable though.

  1. Is this wired or wireless?
  2. Run this speed test and post a screenshot
  3. Check for Internet Service Outage Near You | Google Fiber

To clarify, part of the reason this result is so different is because I am currently downloading something.

  1. Per my previous question: is this wireless or wired? If it's wireless, please try a wired speed test.
  2. Did you check if there are any known issues with Google fiber in your area at this time?
Fiber lines are very sensitive to damage and with no other reference, that's what this looks like to me. (Probably why @Mark Kaine chuckled... because your speeds are not fiber... they're horrible lol. I know, I'm sorry, I shouldn't be laughing at your expense.)
  3. If it is wired, than you have major errors on your fiber line (or literally a bad modem) and need to call Google.

My connection is wireless and there are no known issues with google fiber in my area.

  1. In addition to providing the info @Robchil requested, please open PowerShell and run the following command:
    ping ((Get-NetRoute "0.0.0.0/0").NextHop) -t
  2. Let it run for about 1 minute while you do whatever you normally do on your computer
  3. Then press Ctrl + to stop it
  4. Then screen shot the ping statistics that should appear in the PowerShell window after you pressed Ctrl + C, and post them here
