Hello,
I want to build a new itx pc, with good performance but silent as most as possible.
So, I need to lower the temperature as much as possible


I have a (dumb) question :


If I set an intel i5 13600K to 13600 speed clock :
Performance-core Max Turbo Frequency 5.10 GHz to 5.00 GHz
Efficient-core Max Turbo Frequency 3.90 GHz to 3.70 GHz
Performance-core Base Frequency 3.50 GHz to 2.70 GHz
Efficient-core Base Frequency 2.60 GHz to 2.00 GHz


The Cpu temperature of the i5 13600K underclocked should be « theoretically » less than a 13600, right ?

Just power limit the CPU if you want it to not draw as much power and therefore get hotter. 

 

Underclocking it manually will lower the power draw yes, though it would still be about the same as 13600 power draw (the 13600 has less cache and therefore worse IPC, so that will have lower power draw, while the 13600k is better binned and might have a more aggressive V/F curve, so that should even itself out), and setting power limits is a significantly easier way that will result in more performance and the same effective temps.

So if I underclock to the frequency of the 13 600K the cpu will automatically lower its consumption but in the end, the temperature of the 13 600K will "theoretically" be the same or lower than that of a 13 600 ?

Yes. 

 

Just set power limits though, it's the much better option if this is your goal.

At least the same, it technically could be lower depending on how good of a bin each of the CPUs is. Different CPUs will have different voltage behavior on them, so a you can find two chips that will run at 50mV different than each other, translating into 30-40W difference between them at the same clock speed. The 13600K should be the better of the two, but the question comes down to whether it will be enough better to make a noticeable difference. 

 

Though again, this is not the method that you should be worrying about. Set a power limit and then thermal performance will be much easier to fine tune as it will automatically adjust the frequencies and voltage to stay within that power limit.

Yes, it's a real lottery !
I knew a time when you could buy processors on ebay with specific serial numbers that allowed you to overclock them much more than others.
I bought an AMD Duron and overclocked it by more than 1000 MHz with a Noctua, but that was another time...

Today I'd like to build a silent itx PC and I was wondering what would be the most powerful Intel processor at viable temperature with a Cooler Fanless CPU, the Noctua NH-P1.

So I'm trying to better understand what my levers of action are, but in the end they seem very weak and above all very random.
