Options for buying/making hard drive rack?

A Direct Attached Storage (DAS) may be what you are looking for.

After a quick google search they look like they can go for quite a lot, but maybe you can find a decent second hand or older DAS if performance isn't critical.

I have an increasing number of hard drives. I would like to swap them in and out. I don't think all of them need to be in RAID array, but at least one or two will probably be in RAID. How can I get a multi-bay rack/enclosure. I already have 6 hard drives all in my PC case. I want to move some of them (1-3) out because they decrease airflow efficiency. And 5 years down the line I will probably have another 3-4 hard drives. Need your suggestions!

You could get 3.5" hot swaps for the 5.25" drive bays, if your case has them.
