Hello,

I encountered a new problem on my PC. When writing data on my SSD, it randomly goes to 0mo/s and stays there a while (but SSD usage is still at 100%). It also make the PC hard to use while doing stuff like copying files. This is very annoying. What can cause this? Is my SSD bad? Thanks for helping.

PS Here's a recording of the issue: https://youtu.be/JLR5G3Ao8kM

So the problem could be something other than the drive?

How full is this drive? Do you write and delete a lot of data to/from it?

The drive had around 600GB left. Also, I don't necessarily write a lot of things on it. Only my steam games and Creative Cloud apps. Although, I already reinstalled Windows 4 times since upgrading my system (got the drive at that time too), everytime I step on some issue with weird Windows bugs.

I already posted on the forum about it, and someone told me it could be a faulty drive... Link:

BIOS update and another Windows install fixed the issues. But I'm now getting this while writing data on the nvme...

TRIM should already be enabled, but can you run it on your system using the built-in utility, and see if that makes a difference?

Can you also download/install CrystalDiskInfo and post a screenshot of what it shows here? Mind the serial number too since it'll be displayed in the program.

Can you now download and install CrystalDiskMark to run benchmarks of the drive? Pick a size run of 8GiB because of the quick transfer speeds of the drive. The default profile should be fine.

Here are the results

No obvious issue is showing here if I get this right?

Edit: I tried another one after this. Thermals because of repeated attempts maybe?

Also, check the temps when this is happening. 47° at idle is a little on the warm side. There's also a nvme ssd driver on crucials site if you want to try that: https://www.crucial.com/support/ssd-support/p3-support

As stated by @Ryker Robb, check thermals during this stage. Even when it looks like it's doing nothing. You might have to keep refreshing it manually, but we wanna see if it's throttling.

If it's not, then my thought is the primary NAND flash might be causing delays due to defects. However, based on the screenshot of CDI, I don't think that's happening(no errors were reported).

For thermals, I did put it back in yesterday to test it, without the MB heatsink. I went ahead and put it back on. The results are below, and the temps are:

There's two other people with the same problem right now. I'm wondering if they're connected somehow.

That's interesting...

EDIT: I realized there are 2 M.2 slots on my MB. I tried to put my drive on the other slot (back of the board). It runs a bit hotter, but I have not noticed the issue since... Would that mean the first slot is the problem?
