Ok so I have an Aopen monitor ( don’t remember which one) and it has no DP but if does have HDMI and VGA. So my question is, is it weird that it has VGA but no DP? I at least think that it would make more sense to have a DP but no VGA because more people would have a DP cable and devices that use it then for VGA.

In my experience, it seems that a lot of manufacturers of lower end devices (or even those meant to be sold to everyday consumers) prefer to have HDMI and perhaps VGA on board. Why? No hecking clue. I can say though that working in the business industry where "business class" laptops were everywhere, they always had one of two outputs: HDMI and VGA.

Could just be the past lingering on into the modern era.

I think this might be more common on business type stuff as Wzyss says.

At my work we still have a bunch of infrastructure that needs VGA (think beamers etc (that we're finally phasing out) or ancient pcs that run very specific things...)

Faffing about with all those adapters that like breaking is an absolute pain.

Other than that no idea. I generally insist everything has a HDMI AND a DP if we buy anything new...

Normally low end monitor came with VGA as many office still with old PC which still running VGA or HDMI instead.

DP is not main port for business usage and normally company will pick cheap monitor for user.
