Hey guys, so I decided to upgrade my MSI 1070ti to a Sapphire Nitro RX 7700 XT, but I think I've ran into a little bit of a problem. I have an MATX PC case (Cooler Master MB311L) which has 4 pcie slot in total, and my motherboard (Gigabyte B550M DS3H) has a lower position for the GPU slot, so basically my top pcie slot (right under the fan) is useless and I have 3 usable pcie slots in my case because of it. My 3-slot RX 7700 XT is basically 3mm above the PSU shroud (I've had to put the GPU cables above the GPU since they can't fit under it) and I'm afraid it has 0 airflow even tho the GPU fits fine in the case itself, and the temps are fine for now, it just makes me uncomfy that the GPU fans are so close to the case. Should I get a motherboard with a higher GPU slot or just leave this be until I upgrade to AM5/LGA1700 in some time?

It's common for the first slot to be unutilized on Atx motherboards.

It's definitely not ideal but that case seems to have a good airflow front to back.

Check the temps too see if they don't raise above 80 C.

Qoute my reply if you want me to answer back.

You don't want to use the lower slot. It only runs at pcie 3.0 x4. You need to find a way to make that *useless* slot work if you wan tthe full performance of your GPU.

That's not what he means Blue, it's a mini-itx build and the case has four pcie expansion slots. The pcie x16 connector of the motherboard is aligned to the second, so the first one is not usable.

That board is not a m-itx from what I see. It's m-atx with two x16 physical slots.

Yes, but the problem is the case. The card is a three slot. So the bottom x16 connector is impossible to use.

Yes, and the GPU itself is like half a centimeter above the case so I'm afraid that it's struggling for airflow 😅 Also Yua no they don't raise above 80C, max temp is around 67C but I think it's my case fans doing most of the work there for cooling(2x140mm at front, 2x 120mm at top and 1, 120mm exhaust) I think the GPU would be like 12C cooler just if it was in a normal placement but until I upgrade that's impossible
