Pc is turning off while using folding at home

Operating System: Windows 11 Pro 64-bit
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X @ 3.4 GHz
RAM: 16 GB out of 32 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4 3200 CL16 Patriot Black Out Viper
GPU: Asus Noctua RTX 3070 OC
Motherboard: MSI MPG X570 Gaming Edge WiFi
Boot Drive: Samsung SSD 980 Pro 2 TB
Secondary Drive: Samsung SSD 970
PSU: Thermaltake 80 Plus Platinum Toughpower PF1 850W
CPU Cooler: Noctua D15
Case: Corsair 220T RGB (removed)
Fan: 1 Noctua fan (exhausting)

I need some help with troubleshooting my PC. I have two problems: one with the RAM and one with the PSU.

The first problem is that when I had 32 GB of RAM installed (two different kits of Patriot Viper Blackout with the same speed and timings), my PC would crash with a blue screen error saying "Critical Process Died". The blue screen would only show for a brief moment, so I had to take a picture of it. The only programs that could trigger the crash were Folding@Home (on both CPU and GPU) and Topaz AI Video Upscaler, but not at the same time. I ran various stress tests and stability tests, but none of them could reproduce the error.

The second problem is that when I removed half of my RAM (16 GB), the blue screen error stopped happening, but Folding@Home (on both CPU and GPU) and OCCT (on the power tester mode) would cause the PSU to shut off. I had to turn off and on the power switch to restart the PC. Topaz AI Video Upscaler seemed to work fine with 16 GB of RAM. I tried different settings for the RAM (AXMP profile 1 and 2, and off), but it did not make any difference.

I am not sure what is causing these problems and how to fix them. I searched online and found some possible solutions for the blue screen error   and the PSU shut off   , but I have not tried them yet. I also ran some benchmarks to test my PC performance, such as Folding@Home, OCCT, Heaven, FurMark, MemTest86, MemTest64, and 3DMark.

Can anyone help me with these issues? Thank you.

Edit 1:Bluescreen view shows no crash logs. Folding at home takes about 10 to 15 minutes to crash, and it took occt almost an hour to crash
Edit 2: I have tried a stick of ram in both channels. With the side pannel off no crash. Side pannel on crash. I hear a click from the psu. I now have the psu flipped to draw in case air and I blew a bit of canned air in the psu. Currently testing.

if your on windows, you can pop open event viewer (search for it in good ol control panel) and see if you can find any more hints about what could be the problem.

did either of the memory test programs report any errors btw?

based off of your info it does sound like it could be a psu issue.

With the flipped psu drawing in case air computer has been up for 1.5 hours. Previous best I have observed was just under an hour. Hard to believe this case was smothering the psu that much. I have it up off the floor on my desk with nothing under the computer. I did have the dust filter for the psu on. Hmm

The only thing I can find in the event viewer in relation to my problem is windows saying on power up hey I wasn't shutdown properly.

There is a bug with Folding@Home and Ryzen CPUs that several members here on the forums have been experiencing for over a year now. I've basically just come to accept that, for whatever reason, Folding@Home can cause random crashes on Ryzen systems.

The bug seems to mainly affect Ryzen CPUs with multiple CCXs, so it's a bit strange that it would happen with a 5800X, but I wanted to make you aware that that particular application seems to not play nice with Ryzen.

The fact that your system is crashing in such a way that you need to reset your PSU, however, is concerning, and not what I would expect if this was just the F@H bug.

Not to mention topaz can cause the same type of crash? It started with a windows critical error that I had to take a video to see what the error code was to a full psu click. I'll check my phone to see if I saved the video or Screenshot of the error message

You have to  flip the switch on your PSU after a crash? Its your GPU. I have the same problem with a Seasonic PSU and my 3070Ti.

I have never had a WHEA running F@H on any of my Zen 3 parts, including my 5900X.

How long were you running F@H for on your 5900X? It can sometimes take several weeks or even over a month for a crash to happen. I was running F@H for about 50 days for the Folding Month, and I only had a single crash the entire time.

I ran it for a couple of years, now I just fold sporadically. Since I got my 4070Ti I do not run it on my CPU anymore.. not really worth it.

I don't think it's the gpu im starting to think it's the psu going bad. I flipped the psu so it draws in case air instead of fresh air from the bottom. Note pc is on a desk with no under obstructs. And the system as become far more stable. Previously before I flipped the psu over and left the side of the case off the system was stable for at least an hour. I didn't test with the side off for longer than an hour. The psu is rated for 850 watts however im only using about half it's rated spec and its exhaust is hot to the touch
