Hey so I'm just bought what I think is a gpu from Facebook Marketplace. I'm kinda new to the used market and I thought I found a pretty good deal on a 2080 ti. It was trying to help my dad find a good enough gpu for his work but I think I just messed up. The gpu was $200 dollars and I don't know what to do. I though the seller seemed rather trustworthy. They talked like any other person, their profile showed where they worked and where they were from. They even had a few posts. The only think that felt unsettling was the fact the profile was created in 2023. After sending them the money, I check on the listing a bit later on a different account saw it was still there which also stressed me out even more. Heres the like to their profile and the listing if anyone wanted to take a look.

You sent someone money over Facebook instead of meeting them in person and buying it with cash?

Or going through a marketplace like eBay with PayPal protection?

You got mega scammed. Don’t send random people on the internet money without some form of middleman service you can fall back on for consumer protection. If you just sent some dude $200 without any of that you have zero protection in their attempt to scam you.

If you don’t get anything out of them immediately, call your bank and bring it up as a fraudulent charge and see if they can bail you out.

Oh okay, thank you very much for helping me. I will try what you said.

Peter, mate, you've got to be more suspicious when it comes to the internet.

Never... ever...trust anyone.

No matter how much good natured, or friendly.

You sound like a good person who has chosen to see the good in people and unscrupulous losers will try to take advantage of that to scam you.

As 8tg above suggested, trying going through your bank and see if they will help.

Did you try contacting Facebook? Was there a return policy stated anywhere?

Facebook has no buyer protection. Sending first money would have already been a redflag. Always meet up with the person on Facebook and Craigslist. It's not structured like Ebay with some buyer protection.

Oh I didn't know it had something, although it doesn't say it's available in my location. So I don't know if it has anything other than reporting a account. Ebay is safer if you  paid from Paypal if the item didn't match the description.
