Hello. I recently bought a new Motherboard(X670 Gaming x ax v2). I installed my old M.2 SSD (sadly i dont know which one) with all data and also windows on it. When i booted my PC it went into BIOS and it said „No Bootable Device found“. I also looked in M.2 Slot info where it said N/A. I tried switching Slots but it didnt work. I seated it correctly into the slot. I dont have a HDD and i was able to boot my PC with the old MB with the SSD. My old MB was B450M s2h v2.

Can anybody help me?

id say you'll have to boot off a usb stick in the bios, then it should recognise, then it should be reformatted by windows installation, so safely store all your all data from the old ssd onto a external hdd and then put it on the ssd after windows reformats it. also make sure you have your windows product key as your new mobo wont have a windows product key in it

Do i need to have Windows Installer on my USB Stick to boot?

yea go google the windows installion (https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/manufacture/desktop/install-windows-from-a-usb-flash-drive?view=windows-11)  thing and put it on an empty (more than 8gb) usb stick. then before turning on the pc, put in the usb, then when you turn on the pc, straight go to the bios and select the usb stick to boot off, it could just automatically boot off the usb stick aswell.

usually its best to boot off a fresh windows install anyway to avoid driver issues and such.

You shouldn't be forced to re-format the drive and completely reinstall windows from scratch.

The old SSD, with Windows, should be able to boot into Windows.

What is the make and model of the SSD?

Do you have TWO SSDs now, or JUST the old one?

On the new X670 motherboard, make sure the BIOS is properly set-up

  • i.e. M.2 slots are not in RAID mode
  • Secure Boot is enabled

well its nice to reformat a drive if its full of gunk from the previous build, and to have less issues down the line.

That's true, but the OP is not wanting to re-install Windows (at least, yet).

He/she might have NOT have backed up their data yet, so they will have to boot into Windows and perform a back-up first.

We cannot just instruct them to straight-up nuke the SSD and do a fresh install.

Is Windows 11 on the SSD from the previous motherboard? I'm still not sure how the secure key thing works, but I notice I had some issues and even tried reseting the keys to default from bios. Also may have did some other things, but I don't remember what. It seemed to work. During the startup Windows loading screen sometimes I would see repairing message. I ended up reinstalling since I knew I didn't have anything important.

I just have the old one and the Motherboard is setup correctly. I think the problem is because the Motherboard doesnt detect the SSD. Like i said in the M.2 Slot info it says N/A.

Your B450 motherboard supports both SATA and NVMe SSDs.

However, it looks like the new X670 motherboard only supports NVMe.

im not sure if its an nvme or sata but it has 2 indents on the „plug“(idk what to call it) of the ssd so i think it could be a SATA but im not sure

If it has two indents, then it is a SATA M.2 SSD.

It would also explain WHY your old SSD is not being detected by the new X670 motherboard.

This X670 Gaming AX V2 motherboard ONLY supports NVM M.2 SSDs, and not SATA M.2.

Can you connect an M.2 SATA to an M.2 NVMe port? - Super User

Most of the B450 motherboards have M.2 slots that supported both NVMe and SATA.

Your B450M S2H V2 being one of them.

One option is to use a SATA M.2 to 2.5" SATA adapter.

Then hook it up to the SATA ports on the motherboard.
