Gpu in optiplex 390?

Bondoville

Does anyone know of a graphics card that will work in a optiplex 390 that will play fortnite?

I know it may be a long shot but my son is into fortnite and the computer he has set up to play some of his games is an optiplex 390 it has a i5 2400 and 8gb of ram. I don't want to have to upgrade the whole thing just for him to play fortnite. If he wants to play other games in the future I'll worry about it then. Thanks everyone for any help you have!

Is it a slim one or a mini tower?

Either way GT 1030, 1630, RX 560 or RX 6400. All will be suitable choices, but depending on the size of the system you can either get any variant, or if it’s the slim one then you’ll need a low profile card.

Thank you so much. And it is the slim size tower

Then you’ll want something like this:

Which is just an example, the specific gpus are down to power limits. Since the optiplex 390 doesn’t have any supplemental power, you need a GPU that only uses slot power. So the amd RX 460, 550, 560 or 6400.

Or the nvidia 1030, 1050, 1630 or 1650.

And in a low profile size.

I would get something with GDDR5 memory, as there are ddr4 gt 1030 variants which are worse than their gddr5 counterparts by a decent bit.

You can also usually find these variants used on eBay for a bit cheaper.

Thank you so much. My son appreciates you as much as I do haha. He's been stuck playing fortnite on the switch and can't wait to use a keyboard and mouse!
