PC shuts down while playing certain games

5h0ckw4v3

Hello everyone,

I've been having a weird issue for 3 months. Basically, the PC cooler and the GPU fans go into jet turbine mode, and the monitor goes black or has no signal when playing certain games. I can still hear the music playing from the game, but the movement is frozen until I restart the PC. I've tried several suggestions from the web but to no avail. Below are some info for you.

System:
ASUS Z490 Plus Wifi
Intel 10700K + Corsair H100i 240
NVMe SSD (I use it for some games)
RTX 3080 10G
64 GB RAM
850 Watt Gold PSU
Windows 11

Games not crashing the PC:
Alan Wake 2 (1080 medium) SSD
Conan Exiles (1440 cinematic) HDD
Atlas Fallen (1440 high) HDD
GTA 5 (1440 high) HDD
Injustice 2 (1440 high) HDD
MK 1 (1440 high) HDD

Games crashing the PC:
ARK Survival Evolved (1080 medium/high) HDD
ARK Survival Ascended (1080 low/medium with most features turned off) SSD

Note: While playing the ARK series, I noticed the fans speed up and slow down randomly regardless of where I am in the game. The GPU temp goes close to 90 Celsius before the crash happens. Sometimes, the CPU and GPU are at 50-60 Celsius, and the PC crashes.

Solutions tried:

  1. SFC
  2. DDU
  3. PC case cleaning
  4. Steam integrity check
  5. Power plan set to high
  6. Turn off Windows game mode
  7. XMP turned off
  8. CPU OC to default
  9. BIOS there's no new update
  10. Sent the PC for a check-up, and it came back saying nothing was wrong.

I know people are complaining about ARK Ascended's poor optimization, but why is it happening in ARK Evolved as well?

Blackout under heavy load. Hmm. It looks like power delivery issue. Could be PSU problem, GPU problem or Motherboard problem. But first I would check if all power connectors are seated/plugged correctly.

doesn't really matter why... its just how the gpu protects itself from overheating.

get better cooling,  i guess, personally i recommend noctua.

*and, yes, that includes the cpu cooler, aios are extremely bad for overall airflow.
