i dont see anyone on here using or telling people to get hybrid drives, can someone TLDR why?

Because SSDs are cheap enough that you can get a small one for OS (120GB is plenty) and a regular mechanical drive for storage.

EDIT:

120 GB SSD + 1 TB HDD = ~140 AUD.

1 TB SSHD = ~110 AUD.

Unless you can't afford a 30$ difference for plain better performance/convenience, or have physical space constraints, I don't see any point in a SSHD.

not sure how storage works but on my computer it says:

Hard Disk Drives (2)

OS C: 747 GB free of 919 GB

HP_Recovery D: 1.48GB free of 12.1 GB

so my OS is using 172 GB?

Your OS is using less than 25 GB of space. If you aren't using C drive to store ANY multimedia files (music, video, documents), then your OS and applications (including games) and their associated files are using all that 172 GB.

Because hybrid drives are really only useful in notebooks or situations where only one drive can be installed and more space/speed is required :)

No, you computer has one drive, but it's split into two partitions (one 919GB and another 12.1GB) for some reason.

ALL of your files are in that OS partition.

so you would just put the folder called "Windows" in the SSD from C: ?

No. You select your ssd when installing Windows.

Windows, Programs Files, Program Files (x86), ProgramData*, Users will all still be there in C:, but I would only install applications I use most frequently on C: and I wouldn't store any multimedia files on C: if I were using a small SSD.

For most people, OS+applications takes up 60 to 90GB. If you want to run a simplistic check on how much your OS+applications is taking up, select all folders I mentioned above except 'Users' on C: and check 'Properties'.

*ProgramData is a hidden folder.

EDIT: As WoodenMarker said above, you'd pick the SSD as your boot drive in your BIOS/UEFI, and let Windows do the rest when installing the OS. It will create all the necessary files/folders for you.
