hi i recently got a used pc with a rtx 3070 and a Ryzen 7 2700x and when I play fortnite I get 200 fps barely with only 30% utilization and my friend has a 4050 witch is supposed to be worst then me and he get 300 fps with better graphics so I don't know if its a bottleneck issue or its just the card has a problem

It might just be your CPU these Ryzen 2000 are not the fastest when it comes to games that only use one or two cores.... So the 2700X can not flex its 8 cores.... For gaming a 13th gen i5 is just better these days... But the frame rates seem rather high for your friends 4060 (or is he going on a laptop?)... But in the end I never played fortnight so it might just be so CPU bound that that 13th gen i5 makes all the difference

Seem fine, can you also look at the temps while in-game?

the cpu temp is at 46 to 50 c and i realised that in game my gpu wont go over 40% utilization my cpu also does the same thing in fortnite

i also forgot to mention but my ram speed is at 2133mhz its supposed to at 3600 but my cmos battery is dead so i ordered a new one do you thing it might be that

This is purely a cpu bottleneck on both your systems , 13th Gen i5 is one of the fastest cpus you can get for gaming , 2700X is starting to get on a bit.

Nothing odd or unusual going on here but why do you want more than 200fps?

It's also worth noting you can up your graphics settings a little and still get 200fps where as he will be more limited on that front so that would be my recommendation.

do you think just upgrading to a 7 5700x will fix it ?

I don't see it as a massive problem but if you want more performance tell us which country you live in and give me us your motherboard details so we can give you some solid options.

Also tell us what cpu cooler you have.

no its 2 sticks

Yea so the 2133 MHz won't make much of a difference, just a few FPS...

I guess the only way would be a CPU upgrade, but as far as I am concerned 200 fps should be fine unless you have a 240Hz + monitor

With that the absolute best you could do rn is the 5600X3D which is only sold at microcenter in-store and I don't know if it's even US only... In theory a 5800X3D is supported by the board but the board does not have the best VRM so it might get a bit hot... But as your 2700X seems to run fine you might get away with using a 5800X3D...

what is the difference between the 5800x3d and the normal 5800x

The 5800X3D has stacked l3 cache which gives it more on the die super fast memory.

In English what it means is this.

Significantly faster in gaming loads and most definately the best cpu that AM4 has to offer for gaming.

ok and if i would like to upgrade my motherboard what should i get and with what cpu? that would be a good fit with the 3070 without speeding too much if possible
