Floatplane on grayjay?

On wan L&L talked about grayjay and the the possibility of a floatplane plugin. I make this post because I would very much like it. If it's not just me maybe a post could show them that the community is interested.

 

I understand the doubts on the whole YouTube with no ads and I don't want to talk about that, this is strictly about floatplane as I think a floatplane plugin would be a win for everybody involved.

As a fan and a user, this is a 100% a win, but maybe as a business they will have more consideration that we cannot see or understand from the outside. But I am very interested to hear them listing out the pro/con of joining grayjay so that I can get some new perspective into the business and hopefully Terren's stand on things.

 

But yeah, I cannot see any downside of flotplane joining grayjay, and that is probably why I am here shouting on the internet and pretending that I know anything at all

It currently doesn't make that much sense, as floatplane operates in several markets simultaneously, including the app market - meaning, part of what they sell is the end user experience. Grayjay is better suited for (perhaps spearheading it?) a different ecosystem with fully un-integrated markets (content, hosting and apps). Should Floatplane reinvent itself as a payment handler and hosting only, then it would absolutely desirable to integrate it with as many apps as possible, so whichever end user experience you prefer, the content is there aa long as you subscribe. 

In the current landscape, I don't think that would be a very lucrative option for Floatplane, as it would find it even harder to appear valuable, and worth paying for, to end users (and ultimately, not necessarily the most attractive easy for creators to paywall stuff).

I don't understand. It would simply add an option for those already paying for floatplane, if they end up not liking it they can simply keep using the normal app.

I understand that the user experience could be better on the native app but that's not the point of an aggregator and I  don't see how it would make floatplane appear less worth paying for the users. if anything a plugin would add more traffick to the platform

(look at what similar apps do for other segments, like tachiyomi. The main con is always the adblocking but if you pay wall the plugin you solve that)
