I am looking to upgrade my PC - I am not really concerned with playing on ultra settings on any games, I just would like to run medium/high with stable frames. I think I have settled on a 7600/7600x depending on price. I have chosen this as it seems to be a decent upgrade, and I like the idea of the upgrade path of AM5. I am not interested in upgrading my GPU for a year or two. I am hoping to spend around $800 for CPU, mobo, ram, cooler.

The advice I am looking for is:

  1. What is a decent motherboard for the 7600?
  2. Best ram? (I think I want 32gb)
  3. I am pretty sure my cooler is not compatible, but would love confirmation
  4. Is my current PSU suitable?

My current PC is:

PCPartPicker Part List: https://au.pcpartpicker.com/list/pQJZQP

CPU: Intel Core i7-5820K 3.3 GHz 6-Core Processor

CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i v2 70.69 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler  ($696.91 @ Amazon Australia)

Motherboard: Asus X99-DELUXE ATX LGA2011-3 Motherboard

Memory: Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro SL 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 CL16 Memory  ($90.00 @ PLE Computers)

Video Card: ASRock Challenger Pro OC Radeon RX 6600 XT 8 GB Video Card

Case: Cooler Master MasterBox K501L RGB ATX Mid Tower Case  ($88.00 @ Centre Com)

Power Supply: Corsair HX850 850 W 80+ Gold Certified Semi-modular ATX Power Supply

1. Budget & Location

Budget is around $800AUD. I am in Australia.

2. Aim

1440p gaming - fortnite, some AAA titles, other FPS.

3. Monitors

2 monitors - 1440p 144hz primary, 1080 144hz secondary

4. Why are you upgrading?

I have been playing mostly fortnite lately. My PC handles playing low/medium settings at 1440p 144hz, but my CPU is often at 90-100% utilisation. My GPU is usually around 40-50%. I am looking for more stability (I get some stuttering and general lack of smoothness). I had my CPU overclocked to 4ghz and it worked mostly fine but every now and then the OC would fail. My wife has been using my PC more often so having failures are more of an issue now as she isn't capable of doing the troubleshooting if she wants to use it and it's failed. I'm now running at stock.

Thanks!

Given the budget, I'd go for something cheap. For the 7600 you really don't need anything high end, and a board like the B650M-HDV/M.2 is usually plenty for most people.

Whatever the cheapest 2x16GB 6000 CL30/32 kit you can find is.

You should be able to buy an adapter bracket to support it, pretty sure Corsair sells one, though admittedly I'm not sure about the availability in Australia.

Yeah, it should be plenty. The 7600 draws half the power of the 5820K.

This should be what you need, the cooler is optional if you can't find the appropriate mounting hardware.

This is a brilliant answer, thank you. I will look into the adaptor bracket that's awesome.

Are you able to help me out with what I should be googling for the adaptor? I'm not super savvy with the jargon.

It should be something like "H100i v2 AM5 bracket" that you need to look up. The AM4 bracket should also work.
