Hey,

I'm using following system at the moment:

Mobo: Gigabyte Z790 Gaming x AX

RAM: 32GB G.Skill Trident Z5 DDR5-6400

CPU: i7 13700K

GPU: Zotac AMP Extreme GTX 1080

You can clearly see that the graphics card is the bottleneck, because it was a leftover.
I play at 1080p 144Hz. Most of the time shooter (CS2) but I also like to play big RPGs like Cyberpunk, Hogwarts Legacy etc.

I also do some video/photo editing using DaVinci Resolve and Affinity Photo.

What GPU would you suggest for a 1080p setup to get ultra settings for the named games (min. 144fps in shooter and 60fps in RPGs) ? I heard a lot about these too cards:
RTX 4060TI 16GB
RX 6700 XT 12GB

The 4060TI was criticized a lot because of its pricing. But the power consumption is pretty good. What price would be fair for that card?
Or would you suggest totally different cards?

Thanks for you help! 🙂

More like, how much is your budget ?

This.

Cuz with a 13700K can you even go wtih a 4090.  But it depends on your budget, as you want to buy something that will give you good 1080P Ultra in years as well.

So a 7900XT would be my call if I was building a machine right now.  $750 and done.

But realistically I would go with a 7800XT for 1080p Ultra 60 if that's all you want in AAA games.

I'd suppose your budget is $300-$350 then

4060Ti makes not much sense, it has lot of VRAM but low bandwidth and not enough oompf for 1400p+ that needs VRAM

6700XT is ok and would be a better pick imo

Shouldn't you be comparing the 4060 Ti with a 7800 XT? The 6700 XT is much cheaper in my region.

Out of the two, I'd take the 4060 Ti 16GB. A bit faster overall and a newer feature set, but the 128bit bus is annoying.

You should also look at whether the Radeon will cause problems for your creative work...

I've been using computers since around 1978, started learning programming in 1980 on Apple IIs, started learning about hardware in 1990, ran a BBS from 1990-95, built my first Windows PC around 2000, taught myself malware removal starting in 2005 (also learned on Bleeping Computer), learned web dev starting in 2017, and I think I can fill a thimble with all that knowledge. 😉 I'm not an expert, which is why I keep investigating the answers that others give to try and improve my knowledge, so feel free to double-check the advice I give.

My phone's auto-correct is named Otto Rong.🤪😂

Well, it's kind of flexible. I mean, I'm happy if I can keep it low. My goal was to check what kind of GPU can accomplish my minimum gaming needs. When I now what GPU is needed for that I always can compare to an upper level.

So, your 7800XT call is a first and good point for me to see what prices I should expect.

I was looking at the 1080p Ultra settings chart at TomsHardware for orientation.

You won't get really good advice without giving a budget

With no budget limit get a 4090, even if it's bottlenecked by your CPU at 1080p, you'll be sure to always get the best performance your PC can give 😛

Or a 7900XTX if you don't care for NVidia stuff, it's "only" $950 now vs $1600 for the 4090

A more reasonably priced pick would be a 7800XT or 4070 (NVidia if you're using their features or doing video work)

6700XT is kinda the lowest card that makes sense for you on a strained budget imo, it'll give you +50% performance vs a 1080

Yeah I know that the budget is an important point. At the moment I would target 500-600€
That would be the range of a 4070  or 7800XT.

The 6700XT is a good hint for a low budget solution to get a better performance over the 1080 and place the big GPU upgrade on hold for some more time. I don't have that much time for gaming at the moment, but when I play I'd like to play with a good performance. That would speak for the 6700XT as a first small upgrade.

Any idea if there is a reasonable Nvidia card compared to the 6700XT because of the video editing stuff?

I see. With USD prices, it goes something like:

$200 = RX 6600

(your GTX 1080 is around here)

$250 = RTX 3060 12GB

$300 = RX 6700 XT

$500 = RX 7800 XT

$550 = RTX 4070

$750 = RX 7900 XT

$800 = RTX 4070 Ti

For 1080p I wouldn't pay more than $550, unless you plan on upgrading to 1440p or 4K in the near future.

A 6700 XT is a decent card, but in your circumstances I'd be a lot happier with a 4070 or 7800 XT.

Nvidia cards tend to have an advantage for workstation apps and VR, but I think RDNA 3 is decent with Davinci? * I don't know anything about Affinity Photo.

Video editing in DaVinci Resolve Studio was easily the best showing for the 7900 XTX. It does particularly well for H.264/HEVC decoding and RAW debayering – the two main types of codecs where the GPU actually matters. The performance for GPU effects like OpenFX and noise reduction is also very good, matching the more expensive NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 16GB.

No, I just know that many things that creators do don't necessarily work well with Radeon. I know this from many threads here on the topic. If you ask, you'll surely be helped. 😀

Not really unfortunately, on the "new low end"  NVidia cards are badly priced relative to their performance in most parts of the world (that has access to AMD cards lol)

If you really want a Nvidia "low end" card the "less worse" is the 4060, its price is around the same than a 6700XT for "only" 10-15% less raster performance, and 8GB to 12 on the 6700XT... so  it'll work ok as long as you're at 1080p but don't expect miracles above (the bandwidth being low in addition..)😛

Then the 4070 is an ok mid range card, or wait for the 4070S that should come soon but they should be at $700 or so

I've heard about this too but I also read in some forums that it got better with the newer AMD models. Maybe I have to research some more information.

Yeah, I was thinking about waiting 1-2 months in general with all the black friday and christmas sales or some new models.

Sometimes it is painful to have so many choices 😄
