You don't make any sense. You say you know you're doing a clean install...which would mean you're reinstalling the applications anyway.

I'm aware that I would have to do a clean install of windows again

Not necessarily, a clean install isn't strictly necessary when swapping from Intel to AMD or vice versa, it's just recommended. My test bench has had the same OS on it for the past 3 years, and it's gone through dozens of motherboards and CPUs of both teams without issues. Windows 10/11 is pretty good about detecting hardware changes and adapting to them without having to reinstall. It's just that if you start noticing some weird behavior, a Windows reinstall would be my first troubleshooting step.

if I backup everything would it be plug and play with my applications on the new windows install or would I have to reinstall my applications.

If you reinstall Windows you need to reinstall all your programs, there's no way to restore previous applications.

Well that's why I'm asking. Because it's a clean install of windows and then putting my drive with all my applications into the pc. I wouldn't be asking if I knew.

So the applications I have on the backup drive work if I try to run them?

No, they won't. Installing applications on Windows requires you add both the application files and registry files to have it work. A backup cannot include the registry files, so the applications just won't launch.

You'd have to reinstall them because there's (likely) files installed to the Windows directory that would no longer exist.
