AMD timeouts when gaming

Go to solution Solved by Joeytoch,

It was definitely the Mhz that were set too high. Running it on 2600Mhz and fixed everything. Even with my ram expo on, overlays on and everything...

Dear LTT community,

I have recently built my own pc, the first week was absolutely fine. After a week or so.... every time I started playing cod: warzone 2, the game would crash, amd timeout and directX issue would pop up.

I have updated everything possible, besides the BIOS since there is a few new updates out. I think im on update 1614 (updated when I bought).

Full specs:

Ryzen 7800X3D

ASROCK Radeon RX 7900 XTX Phantom Gaming 24GB

Seasonic G12 GM 850 watt

G.Skill Trident Z5 Neo RGB F5-6000J3038F16GX2-TZ5NR

ASUS ROG Strix B650-A Gaming WiFi

Lexar NM710 1TB SSD, M.2.

I have tried using expo, turning it off, tried PBO, turned it off, tried undervolting the card to 2850, 1125mv, still the same issue...

SAM on/off has no difference.

Rolled back gpu driver to the version of when I had it in the first week, same issue.

Even DDU'd amd adrenaline, tried installing drivers only, same issue so downloaded the full version again.

If there is any info I can provide that is needed or things I can try, please let me know.... I'm not sure if its a hardware issue or something I can do...

Kind regards and thank you in advance,

Joey

Flash the latest motherboard BIOS.

Download the latest Chipset drivers from AMD. Not the GPU drivers.

Use separate power cables for the GPU.

Try with Expo disabled.

Will do as soon as I get home. Cables are straight from the psu if you mean that? I have no other psu to use on it. EXPO is fully disabled atm.

Got home, they are 3 seperate cables going in the GPU.

Updated asus bios to 1654 (this auto disabled expo as well, but wasn't enabled anymore in the first place).

Updated chipset (but I think i had this update installed already).

Going to try some games tomorrow, so I'll post back if I still have the same issue or if it's actually running stable.

So far thank you for answering!

Just checked and played a game, first game of warzone crashed. Although, the new cod's beta ran fine multiple games on multiplayer

There's a new AMD GPU driver available. Try it.

Any other ideas? I ran amd's gpu stresstest and it ran for 10 mins straight without issues. 5 mins into warzone on low settings crashes everything

Do you maybe use Antilag or Antilag+?

THINK I have fixed it.

Before, couldn't run a game without crashing, sometimes twice in one game (after returning into the game in ranked).

I was reading the specs of the GPU I have, which is up to 2615Mhz and 2400 gaming or something. I'm not sure how it works so if someone can explain that I'd be very gratefull. Details here: Https://pg.asrock.com/Graphics-Card/AMD/Radeon%20RX%207900%20XTX%20Phantom%20Gaming%2024GB%20OC/index.asp

In AMD adrenaline software, the default was set on 3010Mhz, and I've noticed it be 2960 before as well...

I now manually set it back to 2400.

The second thing I've changed is video memory scale in game settings. This used to be on 80 or 90, now it's at 60.

I'm not sure which one of these is helping most, I'm guessing the speed in amd settings tho... This might also explain why it ran smoothly the first week or so, if it was set to the right Mhz before (no clue why it would change tho?)

I've managed to play 3 games without crashing. Will do some more testing coming days but 3 full games looks promising to me!

Thank you 191x7 for all the help! Appreciate it a lot when anyone spends their time trying to help me!

this is entirely possible btw, some games just "hate" overclocks, even factory ones, by setting it to amd default speeds you fixed it (most like)

Tbh I've had the same crash happen in starfield before as well, I just don't play it much. Warzone on the other hand I'm always trying to play whenever I have time, so I haven't done great testing there either...

Not sure why the default speed in AMD software changes either. I've seen it at 2960 before, now was above 3000... maybe that's why one time it's a bit more stable than others when I keep crashing constantly... dumb software issue which is easy to fix imo...
