PC not booting after bios ReBAR settings change

TheOrangeBoy

I have decided to change the bios settings to enable ReBAR. After doing that the PC is not booting anymore, Im getting no output on the monitor.

I have changed the ReBAR to Enabled, the "above 4G memory/cryptocurrency mining [...]" setting enabled itself, so I assumed it has to be enabled with it, and while at it I turned on something called game boost in the bios settings.

After a restart the PC will not boot even to bios. I have a VGA light on on the motherboard - apparently it means no video output found.

I have removed the CMOS battery and put it back in [power supply disconnected] - no change,

I have swapped the GPU to the other PCIE slot - no change [now swapped back to the original slot]

Specs:

MSI b450 tomahawk max mobo

Ryzen 3600 cpu

amd 5700xt gpu

I assume your boot drive is set to legacy mode? Legacy and ReBar aren't compatible at the same time.

For it to not even boot into BIOS not good.

What's the light? Can you tell us and what it asks for in manual?

I changed the boot settings to UEFI

The led is red and solid - some description I found of it: VGA LED: This LED is related to the graphics card or the display output. If it stays lit, it indicates a potential problem with the graphics card or its connection to the motherboard.

That's fine but is you boot itself formatted to UEFI or is it running in legacy mode?

Either way, even if you got that wrong you should be able to boot into BIOS.

Remove the GPU and plug the video cable into the motherboard, if GPU is to blame then PC should boot via iGPU.

Aight got my G's n X's mixed up. I mean you can try to boot without the GPU and see if it boots at all. If it does and doesn't throw a motherboard error then GPU's to blame. Then really you only have a spare option of swapping out a different GPU and see the picture it displays.

How long was the battery out? Just taking it out and putting it back in isn't enough to clear the CMOS.

I flashed the BIOS and it booted right up.

Then I changed just the GAME BOOST setting, and it tanked again.

Not booting once again, so just flashing the bios again - only this time no EZ debug light at all.

Seems the culprit is this setting - Ill just stay away from it - if flashing the bios works this time that is

Is game boost some auto overclocker? I have an ASUS board and if I let it auto OC itself it'll do so in such a way all drives become undetectable except boot.

Yea, if resetting game boost to off or whatever return the PC to normal, leave auto overclockers be.

ReBar should be a separate setting from your auto OC. Did you only change your ReBar setting or change it along other settings all in one go?

Yes it is, I was just wondering if there are any mistakes that I can make by just changing the ReBAR setting in the bios with no other prep.

This time i didnt change it at all, the first time i did it along with the Game Boost

ReBar is merely on/off. Can't configure it wrong. Might have issues if your boot simply isn't UEFI. ReBar still works when not touching auto OC?
