Connect my Comp to Two Networks at the same time

BoxNew

Hello!

I really need your help here guys!

So here's my problem:

My computer is in my bedroom (3rd floor) and my router is in the living room (1st floor).

I have a 35m ethernet cable that connects both so I can have the ethernet quality on my computer.

One good thing is that my computer is connected to the same network as my internet router (let's call it Network 1).

I also have a Wifi extender in my bedroom. I can choose to plug that 35m ethernet cable straight into that extender so I have Wifi in my bedroom (Network 2) (for my phone and eReader), and use a short 1m ethernet cable from that extender to my PC (Network 2).

The issue, is that when I use that second option for my PC to be connected to Network 2, I'm logically not connected to Network 1 - and that causes issues when I'm streaming Plex on my TV, or trying to use a phone remote App to control my PC from my living room.

Therefore my question is: (I'm pretty ignorant tbh), is there a way to connect my PC to Network 1 and Network 2 at the same time - in a more practical way, I've seen there are ethernet splitters but they have 2 female ports and just 1 male, but I'd need 2 male ports and 1 female so my PC could be connected to both networks (the 35m ethernet cable would plug into the splitter, one male cable into my Wifi extender, one male cable into my PC - so ethernet for Network 1, and wifi for Network 2). What should I buy? What can I do?

Hope this was clear enough.

Thanks for reading

Those wifi extenders usually have an option to act as if they were network 1 (in fact that is usually the default, what wifi extender do you have?). You probably just need to change the setting of the wifi extender.

Common build advice: 1) Buy the cheapest (well reviewed) motherboard that has the features you need. Paying more typically only gets you features you won’t use. 2) only get as much RAM as you need, getting more won’t (typically) make your PC faster. 3) While I recommend getting an NVMe drive, you don’t need to splurge for an expensive drive with DRam cache, DRamless drives are fine for gamers. 4) paying for looks is fine, just don’t break the bank. 5) Tower coolers are usually good enough, unless you go top tier Intel or plan on OCing. 6) OCing is a dead meme, you probably shouldn’t bother. 7) "Bottlenecks" rarely matter and "Future-proofing" is a myth. 8) AIOs don't noticably improve performance past 240mm.

Another option would be to get an Ethernet switch. Plug the long cable, your PC, and your WiFi extender into that.

I sold my soul for ProSupport.

As others said above, the extender should be extending network 1, not re-broadcasting as network 2.

A more expensive option would also be to get a proper WiFi Access Point that has one or more passthrough ethernet ports, manually configure it with the same SSID as network 1 (but a different WiFi channel) and have it wired with the PC plugged into it.

The cheapest option also already mentioned, just get a cheap unmanaged Gigabit switch and plug everything into that so both the PC and extender have a wired link back to the router.

Router:  Intel N100 (pfSense) WiFi6: Zyxel NWA210AX (1.7Gbit peak at 160Mhz)
WiFi5: Ubiquiti NanoHD OpenWRT (~500Mbit at 80Mhz) Switches: Netgear MS510TXUP, MS510TXPP, GS110EMX
ISPs: Zen Full Fibre 900 (~930Mbit down, 115Mbit up) + Three 5G (~800Mbit down, 115Mbit up)
Upgrading Laptop/Desktop CNVIo WiFi 5 cards to PCIe WiFi6e/7

Hey guys! Thanks a lot of the quick answers. I apologize for not having answered faster, had and have a lot of work these days.

Thanks a lot - I did not know that was possible.

Let me share: the model of my repeater and screenshots of the configuration interface.

Hope I didn't upload anything sensible.

I'm a bit lost with all these terms and possibilities.

Thanks for helping me out!

Hey guys! Just bumping the topic.

I believe it is possible to translate the Amazon page I've linked. I know it is in French and I apologize for that.

Thanks a lot.

Cheers
