Hi, I'm looking into buying a fan controller for my PC.

Quote

Since all front fans of my PC case have died, I'm ordering some Noctua PWM fans (A12), and with those I would like to use a fan controller to be able to manually control their speed (so I can do things such as turn them off at night when I go to sleep, reduce their speed when I'm working, and increase it when I'm playing games, etc).

I'm looking for a cheapo fan controller that have:

  • Speed control: not necessary to be per fan
  • ON/OFF capability (can turn fans on or off): not necessary to be per fan
  • 4-pin PWM connectors: so I can connect my Noctua NF-A12x25 PWM fans
  • At least 5 fan connectors to connect all my case fans

Also, if possible: with remote control and no/minimal lights.

I live in Brazil, so if possible, models that are sold in Brazil. Some websites that I can point to facilitate verification are Mercado Livre (Brazil's Ebay), zoom.com.br (search in multiple websites at once, a bit like PCPartPicker, but not exclusive for PC parts), or even Google.

Am I to understand that you don't want LED fans? Or just that you want to be able to turn off lights?

If you don't want lights at all, don't plug in the RGB cables (if it uses monochrome LEDs, you can add in a toggle or switch to their circuit to turn them off), otherwise look for either a PWM or PWM+RGB controller.  As you've seen, some combine PWM & RGB using a JST 6-pin connector.

Note: some companies sell their controllers as PWM but do not support the 4th pin.

I've been using computers since around 1978, started learning programming in 1980 on Apple IIs, started learning about hardware in 1990, ran a BBS from 1990-95, built my first Windows PC around 2000, taught myself malware removal starting in 2005 (also learned on Bleeping Computer), learned web dev starting in 2017, and I think I can fill a thimble with all that knowledge. 😉 I'm not an expert, which is why I keep investigating the answers that others give to try and improve my knowledge, so feel free to double-check the advice I give.

My phone's auto-correct is named Otto Rong.🤪😂
